Slavery was declining anyway. Good that repubs eneded it. bad that Lincoln trampled the constitution along the way. So it's a mixed bag.

Slavery was the dumbest thing we ever participated in, and freeing them was the second dumbest.

I've also been reading that the KKK was started by the Democrats and was pretty much a terrorist wing of that party.

I am a Lincoln style republican. So I feel great about it.

My fathers family is from the south, and I am sure a bunch of them fought in the Confederate army, but I am a blue jacket. Yankee through and through.

substitute yankee with communist, someone who wants a centralized government and force your way of life on all the states.

This is such a fail on so many levels. Although Lincoln was in the republican party, the ideologies of that party are more in line with those of the democratic party now. And ironically enough, the democratic party back then had views more in line with modern republicans. So in short if Lincoln were alive today he would be a democrat. The parties have switched platforms with each other since then.

OP, Republican freeing the slaves is a matter of FACT, not "FEELING". Republicans had been fighting for civil rights for blacks for 100 years before the phrase "civil rights" was uttered from the first Democrat's filthy, bigoted mouth.

I am completely descended from Britain on all sides. No I don't hate my ancestors who actually owned slaves. Just little 12 year old English snot nosed brats who managed to get ahold of their parents computer to troll internet forums at midnight.
