Re: Mathematics is flawed, no such thing as real negative number
That's my point, since math is allowing people to create things that don't exist, it is flawed.

Carpentry allows people to create things that don't exist. Is carpentry flawed too? Carpentry often involves some mathematics.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29757648

In carpentry, when you're out of wood, you're out of wood.

But with the magical zero, all banking systems can just grow their cabinets and tables larger and larger until you can't even afford a toothpick and you get that cavity that abscesses and goes straight to yer fucking brain.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31056540

Dude, you don't even know how banking works.

You don't know how any sort of math works, at all.

You're basically a drooly tard who should be BANED from the internet for the rest of your days.

First of all, you're arguing with the internet.

Second, I could care less what math says. I just got done tearing a couple fish and some bread into enough scraps to fill up a volkswagen.

Have a nice night.

op is right

i teach ab and bc calculus

and carpenters make "something" from nothing?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16797046

nobody except you said that carpenters create something from nothing.

i said carpenters create something that doesn't exist, which they do. they have a pile of wood, they make a table. the table didn't exist, now it does. they created something that didn't previously exist.

Re: Mathematics is flawed, no such thing as real negative number
Take this simple equation: 5 - 10 = -5

WTF is a -5 ?

Math is fundamentally based on counting.

For the above equation we can say, you have five apples and you take away 10 apples. This is invalid because you create additional five apples that are nonexistent.

The Arabs got it all wrong!

'Math' is an imaginary activity that takes place inside the conceptual world, the fact is that your whole life takes place inside your mind.

It is a world with it's own rules and (non spatial) dimensions and exists whether the physical world exists or not.

It can be used to model certain aspect of the physical world, such as the presence or absence of apples, how fast they fall under gravity etc. But it is always entirely separate from the physical world - an image of an apple in your mind is not and never will be a physical apple.

Exactly this. applause
You can use maths as a tool to describe the world - not the other way around. The definition of negative numbers can be applied to the concept of a debt - it's that simple.

Re: Mathematics is flawed, no such thing as real negative number
Its a theory, much like other sciences.

Nothing is 100% beyond doubt.

What is 1 unless you say 1 orange, or 1 apple?!

1 in itself is a valueless symbol.

Mathematics is part of the illusion, a way to label, and categorize things to keep humans busy from discovering what is really happening.

Um... no, 'fraid not. Maths is the only subject that IS proven beyond any doubt. You start with basic axioms (i.e. definitions of addition, division, etc. - I think there are seven), and anything arising from them (i.e. the whole of maths) is a logical deduction. That is, it is logically, absolutely, and inescapably true. The only time maths is wrong is when someone has made an error in the working.

The application of maths is another matter entirely, though. Sciences, for example, are an entirely different field involving the study of the physical world, and often apply maths to model the results. Those results are theories - the maths that they're applying is not.

If there is a point in a graphical program which needs to be placed, negative insinuates to the left or downwards depending on whether it is the X or Y axis.

mathematics, the one conversation that could actually go on forever. Why? because you all want your own piece of the pi...
