You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?

Re: Forgiveness
what about the shame of sin?its ok saying forgive one another,I get that bit-but I also see people who are still crippled by what they have done/said in the past-what about them?what do you tell them?
They've confessed their sins and repent of them but are barely able to function because of a life of drink/drugs or name your poison.
How do you convince them that they are forgiven? The pain and shame runs deep.

I would offer to walk along side them for awhile, because forgiveness isn't something you can convince someone with words. Shame and guilt take a long time to be removed, and I have found what helps is to demonstrate to the other person that they have incredible worth and value to me: just as they are.

I have come to realize that the most powerful words in the world aren't "I love you" but "You matter to me!"

Re: Forgiveness
I am a big believer in the power of forgiveness. If I expect to be forgiven it only makes sense that I can forgive.

Holding grudges and being angry is mostly a waste of time and emotion. I think a lot of it comes with age, in my case anyway. I used to hold on to a lot of anger, mostly about petty stuff.

It really is very freeing to forgive and not giving your power to someone. Most of the time the person you are angry with or can't forgive has long forgotten about you or the transgression so I try not to let people rent space in my head if you know what I mean.

Hope I'm making sense, lol...hardly got any sleep last night.

You always must forgive as God always forgives you when you ask and are serious about it... but that doesn't mean you allow yourself to be put in a compromising situation with that individual again. That would be a trust issue.

Speaking of which... Lisa I would recommend you removing those individuals from your foe list, if at all possible...

Ephesians 6

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Maybe one day those people will open their hearts... but not if you continually condemn them.

Re: Forgiveness
"..Forgive us our trespasses AS WE FORGIVE.."
that IS the condition , a direct choice that requires our participation, or not.

One must first use the medicine to administer it.
this is also why they call it "the way the truth and the life, and that no man can come to (God=love) unless they learn to walk in (forgiveness=Jesus), a human trait that takes allot of sitting down and conversing with, This Forgiveness IS a spirit and he is in our history books as a man that walked among us to demonstrate the power of itself, it is not exactly separated from us if we are made in his Image, but we are to practice using it in our daily life and experiences..we are presented with such a challenge , a part of us we take for granted but in the end will see. What are people usually concerned about when they have experiences of crossing over? they have flashes of what they did or didn't do with there power of love, and how it ripples around into life and touches one person to the next, why Is Jesus the first person most people meet on the other side? (Forgiveness=Jesus) is the key to Ascension..to let go, and to move forward requires allot of sitting down and talking with Him..praying?
ask any psychologist how important forgiveness is, ask any priest, or just look inside and ask the real question, 'has this been what has been holding me back?' why do I keep cycling back to the same lessons?

Our life is a testimony of how well we do with the power of love, and to keep it ripe and alive and usefull we have to sit with Jesus and let him in as a teacher and a friend, cause we all heard what the power of Love can do , and also we heard the story of how he demonstrated it for us.

This is why we can do all he did and more, when we say His name and we claim his authority miracles happen, why? because everything is a testimony to Love, and for Love.

Our pets look up to us , our friends look up to us, our family's look up to us, we do so much better if we use it wisely. we are at the cross roads, we choose the path to take daily.

Thank you for the post. To forgive I have to start with myself and forgive myself my innocence and naiveness that allowed the hurt to happen. Then I can forgive the other person. This happens by giving some tangible good to the other person despite their relative lack of redemption. To give for. To for-give.

Re: Forgiveness
There are some very wicked people in the generations of my Mother's family, even to this day. One day my Mum decided even after all of the horrific abuse that she would sit down and forgive them their sins. She told me how pictures started falling off walls and really freaky stuff was happening, as if they HATED very much that she was forgiving them. She got scared and stopped.... which is a huge shame because something very powerful was happening. Hate your enemies and they'll laugh, mock and rend you, but forgiving them is very powerful indeed.

Forgiveness is paramount to the Christian life and discipleship of Jesus Christ. Start praying for healing for people who have hurt you, turn your prayer life upside down like I did when a brother in Christ impressed upon me the importance of always being a blessing, not a curse. Amen.
Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Amos 8:11  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Ruth 1:1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land.

Re: Forgiveness
Interesting lesson I learned this morning that I"ll share with you here. I don't really like talking about my weaknesses, faults and mistakes, but it might help someone else so here's what happened.

This morning I went grocery shopping. On my way out of the store, pushing my shopping cart to my car in the parking lot, I saw a nice black pick up truck that was extremely close to my car. The pickup was running, but just sitting there while the driver and his passenger were staring at my car and talking. They were so close, like inches from my car, something was wrong.

I continued to walk twords my car with my cart and they saw me, and took off out of the parking lot. A young guy and a young girl, and they were laughing.

When I finally made it to my car, I saw it, they had hit the back of my car and smashed the tail light and the side of the bumper and it was hanging off. By the time I saw the damage, they were already gone.

My heart sank as there is damage that we can't afford to fix and we only have liability insurance, it's an old car, but we kept it nice.

I loaded my groceries into my car and drove home and told my husband about what happened. Of course, he was also upset, we both were because we can't afford to fix it and it wasn't our fault.

I sat down and got really angry at those young kids that hit my car, laughed about it and took off, not caring one bit about me and what they had done. I saw their faces in my mind, laughing, making fun, just not giving a damm, thinking it was a joke. I felt victimized and angry. I even verbalized it and called the driver a name.

Then the thought of forgiving that young man entered into my mind, and I didn't want to, I wanted to stay mad. After all, I was entitled to be mad because I was the victim here and did nothing wrong.

Then.....it happened. Instantly it flashed into my mind, a scene when I was maybe 15 years old, a scene that I had long forgotten. My best friend at the time and I had taken her dad's car out for a ride. We backed into some old man's car in the parking lot. We sat there for a minute in shock not knowing what to do, and we made the split second decision to take off. We were laughing and yelling, I guess at the time we thought it was funny, or maybe laughing out of nervousness, I don't remember, but we took off. The old man saw us and started yelling and we drove off as fast as we could.

So.......there it is, it came full circle.

Most of the time, things that happen to us in life we've done to others, done something similar, or even done something worse. We just don't remember or think of those things because they aren't nice to realize. We all suck, we all make mistakes, we are all in need of forgiveness.

Matthew 6:15 "But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
