Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 15723635 United States 12/29/2012 09:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks all. I will probably bring over a bag of food. There is a back story here dealing with cats - so I know their attitude toward the dog will not change. The dog will stand a better chance with animal control I think. It is a big pretty dog - that maybe someone would want. The cat story is... they ignored their cat the same way - but it was not on a chain so it came over here and made it's home. It would not leave. I even gave them food to feed it and try to keep it over there. Either they didn't feed it the food - or the cat just bailed for a better life. The cat proceeded to have it's kittens here under our bush. Tried sending the mom cat and the kittens back to the neighbor - but they kept coming back... Finally the mom cat disappeared - and I said that the kittens had to go as they were old enough to live without their mama anyway... They wouldn't let me find good homes for them - they took them back... By about 2 weeks later - all 4 kittens were dead. |

Quoting: davvi ^This^ is an excellent suggestion. If they're not home and you don't feel the dog will bite you, I'd go give him some food and water, or just go bring the dog over to your house. I had neighbors like this. I was not 'non judgmental' and it caused a lot of problems between that beer swilling, chain smoking bitch of a neighbor and I. Mind you, I did literally steal their dog and take it to the vet. It was infested with fleas to the point it had chewed large patches of skin off which had gotten infected. They also NEVER clipped its nails so the dog would occasionally just rip one off and her paw was all infected and oozing puss. So yeah, I stole their dog and took it to my vet. I got her groomed and de-flead, de-wormed, I got her antibiotic cream for her skin and some pills to tackle the paw infection. We trimmed her nails back as best we could. I also got her all her required by law vaccinations and gave her back with a one years supply of Revolution. For my trouble and my expense, I got screamed at, had the police called on me and got spit on. I moved six months later to a new province and I took the fucking dog with me. — read for knowledge, not answers. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 30250492 Canada 12/29/2012 09:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I called animal control yesterday but they never came. I checked online and it says their hours are M-F 8 to 4... so I guess they won't be around till Monday now. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15723635 Looking at the dog right now. It's just laying there in the snow. It's chain cannot reach the shelter of the porch. It has no food or water or shelter. It is so skinny. It does not bark any more - it barely moves around really. I'm not a dog person generally - but this stinks! The neighbors never pay it any attention at all. Had my eyes trained on the house all day yesterday, waiting for animal control to come... I could see that no one even looked at the dog. The dad came home in the evening and I thought "maybe since today is Friday (payday) he'd have some food for the dog." Apparently not. He did not even glance at the dog. The neighbors are poor and constantly borrow and beg things from us. They have 2 kids who I feel so bad for. I gave them a bunch of clothes that my littlest outgrew... my littlest is 6 (Kindergarten) and I gave them clothes for their littler boy who is 3 but very small. Gave them tons of clothes size 5 down to 2T... but I see the older boy wering the clothes all the time too - he is in 2nd grade - they are too small for him - but I guess that's all they have. They are so screwed up. The mom will buy alcohol and cigs though... so sweet. Just sucks to have to look at their situation each day. I feel bad for the kids... and now the dog. Should I try to feed the dog? Or just wait for animal control? Thanks for letting me vent a bit. Collect video evidence. But I do want animal control to come and see the true conditions... so I don't want to do too much before they get here. Sounds a bit cruel doesn't it? They really need the dog to be taken from them. The dog has no good existence. It would be better off somewhere else I think. I hope. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27517188 United States 12/29/2012 09:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe you should have talked to your neighbors before calling animal control. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25708624 Instead your actions were subverted by fear and you gave up your power over the situation to a government entity. I agree. Any time you involve the government in your life, or your neighbors' lives, there will be screwups. Maybe you know someone who can knock and ask if they can be allowed to take care of the dog. The dog needs rescued, but not by taxpayer paid twerps. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27517188 United States 12/29/2012 09:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Someone called animal control about a dog running loose in the local WalMart paring lot. The county's animal control officer drove to the parking lot, got out with his animal net and netted a concrete dog statue. A store employee asked him what he was doing, and the county guy said that he had netted the dog, that often dogs will "freeze in position" when he is trying to catch them. |

Those people do not deserve having animals. If yo need a companion you could shelter it at your house. I doubt animal control would do much for it besides putting it in an animal storage facility. If your story is true your neighbors got some karma coming their way. If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes. |

Also, which "animal control" did you call, humane society, dog warden, city animal control through law enforcement, or who? Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 15723635 United States 12/29/2012 10:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK - I'm feeling a little bit better now that I have seen the dog "perk up" some... The little kids came outside to play in the snow and the dog perked up. The older boy actually gave it some affection. FYI... I'm in a rural IL county. Animal control in our county is basiacally 2 guys. I've called on them before for a distempered raccoon in my front yard. They are very nice - so I don't want to jump to any conclusions about why they did not come yesterday. They may have received a more urgent call. I think they will take the dog to the county shelter where it will be nursed back to health. Owner pays to get it back or else it is adoptable. I do know people go there for pets. My cousin just recently adopted a dog from there. I may conspire with my other neighbor to do something in the interim to help the dog. She is a total animal lover and was going to call about the dog too... |
