Religion is for stupid people

Being 'right', or 'wrong' in this argument is irrelevant, but I'll give you the easy shot because you may be new to Atheism. While you may be correct about Religion, you are incorrect in your accusational attitude. Not everyone who is religious is an "idiot". It has more to do with how you were raised, and who your friends are, and what has happened throughout your life. It's kind of like being gay, in that it's sometimes not something you chose, but something you are born with. As an atheist, you have no right to accuse anyone of any idiocy. I'm with you, and yes, I do read the majority of the threads here, and although we may get treated unfairly because of our non-beliefs, sometimes you have to rise above, and know that this isn't the answer. You know what you know, and that has to be enough for you. The random attacks are not doing anyone a damned bit of good. I'm with you op, but not with your attitude. There's a lot of Religious people that I respect, and you shouldn't care what they believe. The fact you have your own beliefs should be good enough for you. Leave it at that. We have a new chance every time we wake up to put the insignificant arguments aside, and learn to respect other people based on their beliefs. That's all. Carry on.

There is no such thing as new to atheism. We are all born atheists but we are educated (aka programmed) to believe in religion.

If a group of children were placed on an island with enough food and water to survive with no previous exposure to religion do you think they would all start following Jesus or Buddha or Allah or Brahma or Vishnu or Shiva or Ganesha or Krishna or Rama or Insert your own God here.

Religion is pure evil and turns people against each other. The Muslims are responsible, the Christians did it, the Jews are at fault. We hear statements like this every day and people are so brainwashed into believing this they are even prepared to kill or even die for these beliefs.

No matter how brilliant somebody thinks they are, it is easy to fall into the religion trap.

The mental trigger that makes someone descend into a cult, religion, gang, etc... Is fear and laziness. It is a human curse that was designed into our DNA. To be subservient. To follow. To wish away the responsibility of self growth.

Being anti-religious does NOT make you an atheist, satanist, new ager, or whatever. This is a very typical and childish knee jerk reaction on part of most religious zealots. It is brainwashed into them. The same as a tv watching bobblehead points and says 'conspiracy nut!' They are afraid of the truth. Or they are lazy. Again, same as someone screaming 'racist!' anytime they even approach the subject of aptitude or genetics. These are all knee jerk trigger methods ingeniously designed to keep idiots in their corner.

So religion isn't necessarily for stupid people, religion is for people who are afraid to open their minds. They hide behind a click like a frightened teenage girl in highschool.

I've read the bible cover to cover. Twice. I was raised in the church but I outgrew it. I graduated. The true sign of an insane person is reading the same book, and only one book, over and over and over again, belligerently refusing to look at anything else. It is like the animal trapped in a small cage that walks back and forth until it dies.

Change the title to ignorant and I'm with you on it in respect to what religious people are, not the premise that they are religious.

We all, including you, have our own view point on things which are based on several factors. Each factor of which are generally unique to us individually because we are not all born of the same genetics, parenting, schooling, and more.

That said, I believe in God. I do not believe in the god of the church necessarily.

What your post is about is not religious people anyhow, so tell me why you titled it like it is and attacked people instead of the corporate business you intended this to be about?

If you are attempting to say the belief system most Christians are associated with are a for profit business lying to them and controlling them to the ends of more and more of their money; and those people remaining ignorant(both about what to believe and God), then yes, you have my agreement.

I think, I know, as much good as religions do for simple folks, it does even more damage to humanity as a whole.

Since I graduated from religion I have known a FAR SUPERIOR relationship with god than I ever could have in a church.
