The last time an absolute monarch turned out the lights in Paris, “the darkness was so complete that the city guards could report 15 unsolvable killings on a nightly basis,” says French historian Andrew Hussey . Now, nearly 700 years after the bankrupt King Philippe the Handsome and his plodding Grand Chamberlain Engurran de Marigny banned illumination after dark in hope of squirreling money to pay off debt , Socialist French President Francois Hollande and his Baldrick Energy Minister Delphine Batho have resurrected the medieval strategy that contributed to France becoming one of the first recorded states to devalue its currency. With all the inflation that is going on world wide, the Billion is the old Million. Hey, everyone has 24 hours a day.. everyone except the day they are born and the day they die. There is equality in that. So why not everyone gets 24 Units (Euros) a day to live on, everyone, without exception. What a concept. If you are going to be socialist then you might as well be Socialist.. every one gets the same income every day, everyone, even ones that are in Comas. There is either Equality or there is not. |

Kennedy explicitly called for a top rate of 65 percent, but added that it should be set at 70 percent if certain deductions weren't phased out at the top of the income scale.[21][22][23]The top marginal tax rate was lowered to 50% in 1982 and eventually to 28% in 1988. It slowly increased to 39.6% in 2000, then was reduced to 35% for the period 2003 through 2012.[20] Corporate tax rates were lowered from 48% to 46% in 1981 (PL 97-34), then to 34% in 1986 (PL 99-514), and increased to 35% in 1993. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4423947 You guys understand that with Eisenhower as president America had a high-end tax rate of 91% and America prospered right? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4423947 oh blow it out your ass I am so tired of that particular talking point before 1914 we had NO income tax, and the US became an industrial powerhouse Briefly, after WWII, there were some emergency measures and tax rates, and tnat includes the insane confiscation of nearly 100% of some people's incomes, something which people like you just drool over I guess punitive envy never goes out of style But guess what, that same 90% rate drove many rich Americans out of the US to set up businesses and live outside the country. I know, because my parents met quite a few of them down in South America and in Europe That's when they passed the law that made it so Americans would be taxed anywhere in the world, whether or not they lived in the US But all that does is cause many to renounce their citizenship, just so they don't suffer double taxation in countries which have no friendly tax treaties with the USA. Right now there is a waiting list of people waiting to renounce their citizenship in places like Hong Kong So before you get all excited thinking how great you will feel when you get to tax people like me 75 or 90% of my income, please be alerted and advised in advance that plans have been made years ago and most with a brain have already figured out to prosper We've seen you coming from a mile away. Sorry to be blunt, but you can take your 90% taxes and go bite a fart |
