Technology was higher in the Middle East because that's where cities and agriculture got started - both of which allow massive exploitation of people in big civic projects (building, war, etc) for the benefit of The Few. Starts with Akkad,Ur, Sumer, big long continuous line through Persia, Assyria, Caliphates, through to Iran.

Europe from Greece thru Rome to today's Anglo-Saxon Empire only got its shit together relatively later, after our Dark Age. The Middle East is going through its Dark Age now - and we're trying to make sure it doesn't get back out again any time soon.

So I think the technology and culture wars between us (The West) and Persia are for historical reasons, and they're still being fought. It's not an energy in the soil - it's different energies in our cultures, in our minds, what we're willing to live and die for. Same reason why our own TPTB trying to do that Sumerian Juju shit on us and shackle us all to some big anti-individualist slave wagon ain't gointa work. We don't do it like that over here.

Israel is the 51st state of America. It is a strategic location for many reasons. The least of all being oil reserves in the surrounding countries. It's importance has little to do with religion. However, religion is a great tool to control hearts and minds. Israel is but a stepping stone in the grand scheme of things. Think beyond the next 25-50 years. Oil is a finite resource. Control of this region is paramount to the on-going super power that is America. Gaining the support of the masses through means of religion is part and parcel of the scenario. It would be nearly impossible I think, to perpetuate these conflicts without the aid of the disillusioned and unfortunates who rely on their faith to lead them through life. To your question I would say that separating one from the other is not possible. Regardless of the reason of it's importance, religion will always be a catalyst when Israel is involved.

before christianity, the jews were just another religion. after that, for 2000 years, until the last century, the jews were despised. they were spit on, occasionally massacred, banned from some countries, corralled in ghettos in others, forced to wear emblems (such as a yellow star or an arm band or certain colored clothes), curfewed at night, banned from all professions except money lending or jewelry, etc.

why the sudden adoration of jews and their Israel? this turnaround in attitude toward the jews is actually bizarre when compared to the last 2000 years.

do you really think they were "given" a homeland of their own with no strings attached? I think the country of Israel was created as a strategic foothold in the middle east, foresawn by the creators and those-in-power at the close of WWII and the emergence of the Soviet Threat, and of course the undying support would follow. the excuse is that they are where christianity came from, their murder of Jesus which garnered so much hate conveniently forgotten.
