Re: No ammo.....?
The two Walmart stores I went in this morning were running pretty low. I'm not surprised, I suppose. People are panic buying and its creating an artificial shortage.

Once this blows over in a couple of months, and I think its going to, demand should fall off and supply should return to normal.

This isn't going to blow over in a couple of months, in my opinion anyway. But I hope you're right.

Exactly, or if I pick up a new toy, which will be soon. Also noticed a lot of guys teaching their girls how to shoot at the range. It's funny to see the look of terror when that first shot goes off.

Buying one would definitely put you on a fed watch list.

You'd be better off with a Ruger Mini-14. It's more practical, easier to handle, the rounds are less expensive, and it's not as high profile.

Ha! I'd never seen one up close so I was instantly enamored. I stood there and just stared at it until we left. Although I love semiautomatic (and fully auto!) rifles, I am thinking of buying a handgun or revolver for self-defense (I'm in TX). I think pink guns are cute and all but I don't want a cute weapon - I like tactical black and silver/black combo better. I don't hunt. If a woman has to utilize a firearm, 99% of the times will be to defend her life, so if I ever have to use it, it will be to drop someone, not because it looks cute in my tiny hands. It has to be the right fit for my small hands, and not impossible for me to shoot as I have arthritis but my fear is always that it may accidental discharge so I'm also trying to learn a little more before making a decision. I think I like revolvers, S&W has some nice ones, but very expensive. I like their model 460v revolver very much.
 Quoting: MartianPrincess

If I was going to buy a handgun I would also buy a revolver, they might hold less rounds, but when your at that moment when your life depends on it, you dont have to worry about jams such as ammo jamming in the gun

You lurkers out there please chime in with what you're seeing. I'm pretty sure it's nationwide but any additional info we can get might help someone.

Thanks.

We're in Kansas City. Ammo is either sold out or scarce. My husband went to get some last night and had to piece together different kinds to get enough to go to the shooting range tomorrow. He said he finally got some at Cabella's but had to take a number and the line was long. They were packed with people buying guns and ammo. They had a sign up that said, "No Bushmasters, sold out."

Can’t pre-cock the hammer for accuracy at distance. But most confrontations take place at less than 10 feet so it will not matter.

Take a class & take the class seriously. With a good teacher they will teach you everything you need to know and then some, then practice practice practice.

Re: No ammo.....?
Started buying my ammo about 12 yrs ago, back when you could
get a 1000rds of 223 for about $100 bucks, and 7.62x39 for
$89 bucks for a 1000rds. Box of 30/30 was about $7 for 20rds., 308's were about 5 dollars for 20rds before they became real popular, and back then I could afford to buy
many cases of each caliber for the guns I now have. If I
started to stock up now on the ammo, I couldn't afford
1/5 of what I now have, and I have a LOT of ammo. Just
saying.

Talked to the owner of my local hardware store where I buy my ammo, he is cuurently out of .22 .40 .45 and told me that his re-order's will not be filled for a year, if ever.

I find this disturbing.

That's because if they make a bunch of bullets that don't have the new tracking chip and they don't sell , then they will be screwed. After 2013 it will be illegal to own any ammo without the new tracking tech in the casing and slug.

All ammo will be registered , and illegal to resell or give away.

I live New Hampshire and I have 640 rds of 7.62 x 39 and 650 rds of 9mm for sale but Craigslist pulled my add

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30466207

I relisted my 7.62 and 9mm ammo, if you live in NH its available.

Surplus ammunition that has been stored in military ammo boxes for a couple years as follows. 300 rds 9mm JHP, 350rds 9mm FMJ, 640 rds 7.62x39 122 and 124 gr Wolf Russian laquored FMJ, 20 rds Winchester 7.62x39 FMJ. With most online ammo dealers being sold out of ammo, this load is worth its wieght in gold,,, Make me an offer, I would rather sell the whole load of 9mm or 7.62 as one sale. $320 for 7.62 and $240 for 9mm

I noticed that the local Walmart still has 9, 40 and 45 but completely out of all 223/556.

I expect them to make owning gun powder illegal or force anyone buying it to register and have to buy a license. One or the other, real soon.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28870983

I was just told by the local Walmart sporting goods guy that "no Walmart in the United States has them". I thought it was interesting that he worded it that way as I was only asking if his store had any. And he felt it necessary to bring up the state of the nationwide supply chain.
