STILL haven't properly sunk you teeth into improving your grammar, I see, Dr.Acula.

HELP: It's: "Friends' ", and NOT: "Friend's", as you...bloody-well, mistakenly put it!

Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!!!!!!!!!

Some vampire YOU are!!!

Never watched 'Interview With The Vampire' ???!!!...

Well Dr Acula has made a very good point with the bacon candle idea: all oils and fats can be used to make candles, lamps and cookers... There's a good youtube instructional on how to make a lamp with a can of tuna...you can eat the tuna when the lamp goes out! Just do a search for it on yt. hf

Here's two more:

1. This won't work for everyone, depends how sensitive you are to "hot" foods. I keep dried red chile peppers around for when I get too cold. A nibble of that is enough to make me sweat. Horseradish or ginger root can do the same thing, or tabasco sauce, etc.

2. Keep a couple old thermos bottles around. This saves on gas/butane/kerosene use. Use one to keep coffee or tea hot. Use another to cook rice. Fill 1/2 with rice, cover with boiling water, close, and the rice will cook for you. Works with brown rice noodles, too. Saves 15-20 minutes cooking fuel.

I have recently bought a small camping model gasifier. I think it was under $100.A small hand full of stick burns for over an hour, gives off no smoke so can be used in smaller spaces. I know there are many models and price range.

Re: Dr. Acula and Friends: Emergency Winter Prep Tips!!! (411)
I wanna pass along to you a simple yet awesome way to make a candle...

Like bacon? WHO DOESN'T?! (well a vegan might not...)

For this project you will need a jar...

Mason Jar/Canning Jar (no not the Masonic order, just a canning jar)
or reuse a jar you get food in... like a spaghetti jar... etc
(or maybe a smaller jar if you want)

Take about a pound of bacon... fatty works best!!!

Simply fry the bacon, eat the bacon or give it to others who are in need of bacon... Keep the grease that comes off the bacon... Try to remove any little pieces of bacon that are still in the grease... pour the grease into a glass jar...

(FYI don't pour hot grease in a cold jar... otherwise room temp canning jars can take the heat...)

if you dont have enough grease to fill it all the way up.

Its all cool, dont fret just put the candle somewhere out of your way (no refrigeration required!!!) and fill it up the next time you make bacon!

Now lets say you had enough grease... you want around an inch space from top of jar to grease...

so you filled it up and its a liquid... let it cool until it solidifies... now take a chop stick or something similar and make a hole in the center for the wick.

you can make a wick out of many things...

for a quart jar
take a piece of cloth or paper about the size of a dollar bill and roll it long ways very very tight and insert it in the hole you made in the grease.

trim the wick to were about half an inch is exposed above the grease

coat the wick in bacon grease and you got your self a homemade bacon candle!!

It will give off a bacon scent... but thats a good thing right?

It makes great gifts even if for novelty value to fellow bacon lovers!!

and who is a Bacon lover?!

EVERYONE... well almost cruise

Always remember to burn candles safely away from combustible substances and materials! and never fall asleep with a candle burning!!

You can also turn a can of crisco into a 45 day candle... for safety purposes i suggest scooping out the crisco into a jar... the can that the crisco comes in is flammable... a glass jar isnt... crisco + jar + wich = 45 day candle

Thanks!

a few years ago my power went out for several days and on day two I was sitting outside at night and looked at all the lights we had along our walk way and flower beds etc...

Needless to say the walk way was pretty dark for the remainder of the outage but my house wasnt :)

I hate winter too!

Its -4c (24f) here in Kentucky at 8:48pm and its mostly clear skies... it will more than likely get to -6 (21f) here before dawn

Its been 4 years since it got below 0 fahrenheit or -17.7c

It was -20c (-5F) on Jan 15h 2008 my Bday coldest day here that year. Year before that it got down to -23c or -10f

miserable lol

Hmm. Nice advice but the kerosene heater part is completly wrong, you need to burn the wick every couple of weeks or so to keep it fuel efficient. That means letting it burn until the fuel is completely gone and after it goes out re light it a few times.
Here is a great link to everything you need to know about kero

I hate product placements but this is a good deal! I have one and its well made and awesome!

Its a hand crank/solar emergency radio with a flash light, and of course a radio... The radio works awesome! I live way out and this thing picks up better than an my car! And its pretty damn sturdy feeling!

It also charges USB devices... such as cell phones and mp3 players... THAT is the only reason I posting about it!

Its 14 bucks on sale... not too bad... but as always look around... before you buy!

I dont like the fact that it doesnt have the NOAA weather radio band on it!
But for the price... the light, the radio and the charging ability this is awesome

Ha! Got one for Christmas that has all seven NOAA weather stations!!
Also got a water purification system and portable solar panel!
