The virtue of courage is a prerequisite for the practice of all other virtues, because otherwise one is virtuous only when virtue has no cost. weasel keeper User ID: 31502767 United States 01/21/2013 11:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I was in the USAF, I was stationed at George AFB by Victorville, Ca., it would get shitty cold 30's & 40's with some nasty winds this time of year, but that was the high desert. Have you ever heard of a mudstorm? In the springtime it would get windy as hell and kick up a shitload of dust and sand, then start raining at the same time, when that shit dried on your car, it was like mortar. Wild Weasels? DON'T EVER. I REPEAT DON'T EVER WEAR COTTON clothing. In extreme cold It will KILL you. It traps body moisture and then freezes. Wool pants, polypropylene underwear, polar fleece, and double think in-soles boots are your best friends. I use military issue winter boots from the Norwegian Army. Buy them at any Army Surplus store. That is all. |

Notagain User ID: 32291577 United States 01/21/2013 11:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What I do to stay warm. I am out in -20 to -30 up to 8 hours in a day. I am climatised pretty well. However you have to keep your feet warm and hands and head. The feet I have not been able to afford snow boots that protect against cold. So what I did was get foil and make two layers and wrapped it in clear packing tape and lined my toes with it. I use the tape because without the foil shreds from walking. It is the best and I don't have to worry about expensive shoe liners. There is a way to stay warm as well.. Its not glamorous howevver it works. Uhaul moving pads. those things are thick. there is two varieties I mean the thicker one of course. it can be sewed as a liner in your clothes. In winter I use pure fat to eat to stop the shakes when outside for so long. I eat extra virgin coconut oil in my coffee a tablespoon. usually one tbsp every 8 hours is fine. The body craves bread type stuffs. its easy fast snacks however I try to go for pure fats. its more filling for longer periods of time. the coconut oil also helps me think better lowers blood pressure and sugar and cholesterol. I have proof of that. it went down from 214 to 185 in four months! The dr and nutritionist asked what I did I told them they said it was bad. shakes head. but they shut up. I also eat garlic and lots of cayenne peppers to keep circulation to the skin to stay warm. it is awesome but the smell is awful. I also use iodine on my skin. I put one drop of 15% tincture I buy online from a private seller and I put it on my wrist. One night one side the next the other side. It not only regulates body heat but it helps with keeping bones strong and getting rid of the fluoride out of the body from tap water. It regulates hormones as well as so many other things its countless. I used it for the heat. In winter I can do windows outside with just vinyl gloves the kind they use at hospitals for those allergic to latex. I use it as a liner under regular gloves. it works so well I keep two pairs with me in case. I make my own distilled water by using a huge pot with a glass bowl in the center floating invert the lid and put an ice pack on top to help condence the water steam faster to fall. this keeps the house warmer. And is healthier for the lungs. I had not thought of the shower curtain on the windows. :D 5* and thanks for posting this. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 32524672 Mexico 01/22/2013 12:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks Dr A... Not sure if anyone mentioned this but you really neee to biy long johns and thermal underwear and especially those thick thermal socks that hikers use. You also need thermal hats, 70% of body heat is lost through lack of appropriate headwear and sleep with yer hats on |

IF YOU LIVE AT HIGH ELEVATION YOU CANNOT COOK BEANS IN 8 HOURS. IT MIGHT TAKE YOU 24 HOURS OR MORE....ESPECAILLY IF THE BEANS ARE OLD AND HAVE NOT BEEN VAC SEALED. REMEMBER YOUR ELEVATION WHEN TRYING TO COOK FOOD OR YOU WILL BE SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED AND VERY HUNGRY. |
