My two cents on this topic.

Burning Kero fuel leaves a tar build up on the wick.
Burning the heater empty (outside) removes/burns the tar buildup.
Most say dont burn dry, to avoid the strong burning tar smell.

The wicks i know are always a fiberglass thread construction and will not be damaged by lack of fuel.

Never use a generator indoors! Not trying to be funny but some people have died as a result of this and/or sticking them in their garage.

Speaking of Johhny Depp, he bought his mother a horse farm on veersailes rd in lexington ky, right past the airport. Has a sign out front, Betty Sues Farm. I sealed the driveway is how I know.

Is hard to think Johnny Depp was from KY, he even seems to have a European accent

Is this winter supposed to be worse than others?

Hot water bottles are just wonderful but let me give some of you a warning about them.

When I lived in Arkansas......I would put them in the bed and when I would get up in the morning they would still be warm and toasty......elevation about 300 feet.

But then I moved out to Albuquerque, NM (elevation 5300 feet) and let me tell you that those HOT water bottles turned into ICE water bottles before dawn.

It has to do with the elevation and the humidity.

So......just be aware of that.

its been colder in most of the states than it has been since 2009.

its not over yet i still got my fingers crossed.

and its good to have some supplies on hand in case its not ya know. you can use em anytime.

Modified Garlic Soup Recipe

Serves 4
26 garlic cloves (unpeeled)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) organic butter (grass fed)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
1/2 cup fresh ginger
2 1/4 cups sliced onions
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
26 garlic cloves, peeled
1/2 cup coconut milk
3 1/2 cups organic vegetable broth
4 lemon wedges
Preheat oven to 350F. Place 26 garlic cloves in small glass baking dish. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and toss to coat. Cover baking dish tightly with foil and bake until garlic is golden brown and tender, about 45 minutes. Cool. Squeeze garlic between fingertips to release cloves. Transfer cloves to small bowl.
Melt butter in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onions, thyme, ginger and cayenne powder and cook until onions are translucent, about 6 minutes. Add roasted garlic and 26 raw garlic cloves and cook 3 minutes. Add vegetable broth; cover and simmer until garlic is very tender, about 20 minutes. Working in batches, puree soup in blender until smooth. Return soup to saucepan; add coconut milk and bring to simmer. Season with sea salt and pepper for flavour.
Squeeze juice of 1 lemon wedge into each bowl and serve.
Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

I have something to share.

I slipped on a rock and my feet plunged into an icy stream today doing some trail running it was 22 degrees F out.

Next time, take off your socks and shoes, walk through the stream barefoot, then dry your feet off with your sweater or gloves on the other side.

Don't go across with shoes on and risk plunging your whole shoe and socks into the icy river.

By the time I got back, my socks were frozen stiff along with shoelaces.

Hey Doc, I was just taking the trash out to the road and almost slipped on a patch of ice, and I remembered an old trick for making ice walking boots, get some sheet-metal "zip" screws and put a dozen on each boots tread, and you can walk on ice without slipping and busting your tailbone.

I remember during school this kid slipped on a patch of ice and I could hear the "thunk" of his head from about 50 yards away.

It has been winter for a lot of years already, we survived without all the prepping, is this winter different?

Back in my ice fishing days, it wasn't uncommon to see someone take a spill backwards and hear their teeth smash together on impact, schnapps and swedish glug will do that sometimes.

2008 March... I went tubing... ya know intertube... big black rubber mother fucker with a hole in it lol

well i went down this steep hill i must have hit 50 mph well i hit a rock and my ass slide down in the whole... luckily another rock caught my ass at 50mph...

broke my ass bone... couldnt walk right for a month and it fuck it still hurts when its cold out...

lesson learned... winter time is a douche lol

Hey Dr Acula, off subject but did you happen to "feel" the tremors from today? The news said it was mine blasting but it was felt from corbin to hazard.

well where i live the power goes out every winter... trees fall on the power lines, etc and i can be without power for over a week no problem... so i learned to prep for when that happens...

i wanted to share what i learned.

also a few inches of snow makes the roads here a death trap... very steep hills... very curvy small roads... if you arent careful its a 20 mile death trip...

when they call off school they dont maintain the roads or plow them or salt them... instead of being a rebel and headed out and risking my life... i prep so when it does happen... i got what i need and can sit at home safe and sound
