2008 March... I went tubing... ya know intertube... big black rubber mother fucker with a hole in it lol

well i went down this steep hill i must have hit 50 mph well i hit a rock and my ass slide down in the whole... luckily another rock caught my ass at 50mph...

broke my ass bone... couldnt walk right for a month and it fuck it still hurts when its cold out...

lesson learned... winter time is a douche lol


The tailbone isn't someting to mess with, it's the end of your spine and you can get some serious nerve damage if you break it.
I had a friend that was in the navy seals, and he was on a HALO training mission over a lake in Louisiana, when he landed in the water, he landed on a tree stump and broke his tailbone, it fucked him up bad enough to get him a medical discharge.

honestly i think we're gearing up for a bigger size quake...

i hate saying stuff like that... and i dont think im too bad of a quaketard... but i been watching that fault for about a year and this time last year it started picking up... real small quakes about every other day...

I think its gonna let off a 6 or 7 mag

which would be quite miserable for us in this area.

i dont know when... lol might be a 100 years... but as soon as they announce the discovery of that fault tat 4.3 happens a week later...

and i swear i feel tremors every day... slight tremors...

its a lot better now than it used to be... but damn it was painful... i wanted cry, i wanted to cuss, i wanted to kill, i wanted jump, i wanted to die, i wanted to live, i wanted a hug, i wanted to scream... and all at the same time lol

I can empathize, was inter-tubing at a cut through on a main highway when salt truck came by and plowed the snow off the road, leaving a two to three foot drop and creating a ramp. Me and my friend go to the highest point and ride down together, we were zooming down everybody watching us. Well we hit that snow ramp and back flipped upside down, me landing perfect on my ass on freshly plowed asphalt with no snow cushion. Needless to say I broke my tailbone and almost blacked out from the pain. Saw stars in my vision for thirty minutes. Stood by the fire the rest of the night trying not to move.

yeah that totally sucks!

I just go grocery shopping and stay home.

And while growing up, we had freezers full of beef, venison, duck, chicken, quail, fish, etc., every cabinet was full of fruits and vegetables that were canned after being harvested from the acres we had planted and worked. We had water stored, as well as the necessary tools to address a frozen well were oiled and kept readily available. We had food stored for livestock, as well as means to ensure they would have water. We also had cords of wood that were cut/ chopped/ and stacked - in various stages of seasoning.

And I NEVER heard the word "Prep", "Preps", or "Prepper"

We did, however, PREPARE.

It was simply a way of life. As Dr. Acula eluded to earlier, we knew that in Appalachia we would have ice, and that we would undoubtedly loose power for anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

I grew up in a household of Great Depression-era grandparents in the South. They KNEW they were personally responsible for their/ our own needs. They also knew full-well how quickly the government will turn it's back on you in a time of true need - they had already lived that story.

Today, nearly half of our country's population lives in incorporated metropolitan areas. From this, the balance of these folks have either never obtained or have lost the life-skills often referred to in threads such as these.

These threads, at least the majority I am familiar with, are not posted in a manner of stretching one's Internet legs of "look at what I know or have, and you don't". These threads and the vast majority of posts contained within are all in the spirit of sharing with your Internet neighbor so that should some event arise, these skills, ideas, and protocol may at some time come in handy.

For example: I truly prefer to have our own food prepared and preserved via canning/ dehydrating. DontBeAfraid has a great thread with many suggestions and ideas regarding these as well. With that said, if I both believe in and prefer our own prepared/ canned food, then why do we have a large portion of our business focused to the sale of Long-Term Foods and Food Storage Solutions?

It's rather simple; we know that in today's day and time, and with such a large percentage of the country living in the more heavily populated areas, people no longer have the 40 acres out back on which to grow their own food. We, essentially provide for them a reasonable means to address this, to "catch up" if you will, and to have food and other items on-hand while they begin learning the skills of preserving/ smoking/ salting/ canning/ etc.

It has not been those of us engaged in the Preparedness Industry that has pushed "Prepping" into the spotlight as of late. It those who are realizing the lacking in both life skills and the storage that are now looking to "catch up". These people, for the most part, are wanting to learn, and I hold that desire as an honorable one as they are learning to protect their life and the lives of their family on the absolutely most basic level.

The years of the 80's and 90's allowed for a great amount of laziness and complacency to take hold. It is this group of people - those who were having their hay-day during these years - that are, by and far, realizing how lacking their skills and storage means are, and comprise the vast majority of those now pushing the growing opportunities for learning these life skills - they are also now beginning to involve/ teach their children. For those who fall into this category - I will help them in any way I possibly can, as I am also sure will most of the posters within these threads.

My Father was born in the mid 40's in extreme eastern Kentucky.

But due to the progression of the area and the severe economical blight. It might as well been 1840's

No electric, No TV, no running water. My father never got to enjoy watching TV until he was 18 and living away from home working at a relatives house.

To live he worked farming, tending livestock, chopping firewood all since the age of 5. A very hard life!

One day lat year I was using dehydrator to dry out some fruit.
He told me a story about how they dehydrated apples when he was a kid. and honestly i almost cried...
They took an old mattress box and srings and put it atop blocks.. leaving above a foot under the box springs to the ground. They them put blocks on the sides of it and tapered the walls in... and then they covered it with dirt.... essentially making an outdoor oven.

They would cover the box springs with cut up apples and make a fire and dry them out that way. he told me how tricky it was to control the fire to keep from burning up the apples...

And there i was with a machine that does it all for me... damn i was one lucky lil bastard!

in present day... every year we can 100 quarts of kraut, 300 quarts of beans, 100-200 quarts of tomato products, around 50 quarts of corn, jellies, pickles, banana peppers... lots of stuff...
(When my father was growing up.. they had a big family he said their numbers of each were in the 1000's)

We freeze lots more... potatos and squashes and other things that can be stored underground... we keep lots of it.

We actually eat that stuff and require it for nutrition.

I was born with the instinct to prepare food, spent my youth learning how. so making sure you have a good supply to do you is not a mind set... its what you do.

I could go to the store and buy 50 dollars worth of canned vegetables... or I could just grow my own and create 500 bucks worth.

Except here in Colorado, where we should be at the height of our winter with ample snow - it will be about 62* today, and similar for the balance of the week. Next Tuesday there is a chance of snow/ likely less than 2" (for those not familiar, that's about equivalent to a cloudy day here).

What I mean is do you think global warming is at a dangerous point. A point where the weather is much different than in the past and dangerous in a way that we haven't seen before? That's what I mean. I wonder if winter isn't just winter anymore?

Im not sure. I think things have been done to our weather that is making it quite scary. I do believe in weather modification and im sure some of this crazy weather is a result of that... maybe "they" got things out of whack?

But i also know that rare weather events have been happening throughout history.

1939 a cloud burst dropped so much water in my area that it produced a 20 foot tidal wave that killed many.

I went to that thread, WOW! I never heard of anything like that happening in the midwest, the worst I've seen around here is tornadoes, they're pretty spooky to watch, but a torrential flood of those proportions might make me piss my pants.
