Why Is Your Religion So Important To You?
Does it give you purpose?

Has it become part of your extended family?

Have you become the member of the pack or herd and like the warm, fuzzy feeling associated with it?

Does it give you hope for justice? For immortality? For an afterlife (awesome or otherwise)?

Does it answer some, many or all of those many "unanswered" questions?

I have no "religion" But I have faith in the creator. It guides me and shows me a purpose and reason. without my faith I would be little more than an animal. It gives me no sense of belonging. I am vagabond in this earth, but at least I know why and what is to come.
It shines a light upon the darkness, helping make sense of all this insanity.

Re: Why Is Your Religion So Important To You?
I am non-religious, but I see anything having the potential to be a "religion". I admit, I try to steer clear of that. However I like comic books and TV, not as much on the TV as I used to, getting better.

I am trying to remove the attachment associated with potential components of my extended family. For example, people put parties or politicians in this category. So for a Romeny fan, if you don't like him, it's like calling your mom a bitch. It's seems nuts, but it is how we tend to operate as humans. Part of our survival behavior perhaps.

Being part of a "herd" used to give me the "warm and fuzzies" but lately I do feel more and more isolated, as I don't feel like I can talk with most people. It is not that they don't have the ability or intellect, I just don't think they have the wonder I have lately, it's child-link and fun.

I held on to religion for the longest because of a hope in justice. It seemed so much "evil" went on unpunished or changed and I hoped, if not in this life, in the afterlife, perhaps change can happen.

I admit, I look to science for the potential to extend my life , I doubt true immortality is possible, but maybe put my brain in a computer or something cool like that.

The only potential downside to my "childlike wonder" lately, is every door I open, there are ten more just like it.

Comic books and TV haven't answered any of my questions, but they do help relieve the stress of not having said answers.

Do you want to belong? To stop being a vagabond?

Sadly, at times, it seems that way.

That's not cryptic. Just vague and observant without having to go out on a limb and claim something.

The real question shouldn't be in belief it should be in truth.

Do you think absolute truth exists?

I don't know, but "I believe someone else may have known at some point" and that's a religion. In theory.

Modern religion is much more complicated then that, extending past belief and into social/geo political sectors of life.

Re: Why Is Your Religion So Important To You?
I don't call it religion. I call it Truth. It is what the deepest core of who I am recognizes and responds to. It gives me hope, peace and sustenance. It gives me freedom. No fear, no doubt, just faith and comfort. Joy comes each day when I recognize the source and feel the "knowing", feel my spirit fed with all it needs to survive. I feel protected, recognized, part of the whole. No matter what happens to my physical or mental body...my soul survives. Amen

I think there is always truth, which is, by is nature absolute. Observations are subjective and limited by the observing. Humans have to use machines to observe some of the electromagnetic spectrum for us. Humans design the machines. Does that mean the findings aren't truth? Does close enough count?
