It can be made vegetarian or with fish stock from sardines or bonito. [link to vegetarian.about.com] If I was a prepper on the coastlines somewhere, I'd definitely make use fresh seaweed. It's not safe any longer in Japan because of the radioactive isotopes deposited into the food chain, but someone in Ireland or Spain might consider making it. New England too. With the Corexit on in Louisiana and carried around Florida, I wouldn't harvest local seaweed and make it. Fermented soybeans make up the miso that gives it it's name. Soybeans can be grown in many climates and are an excellent bean to raise in any garden. They are nutritious, but guys shouldn't eat too many of them since they contain plant estrogens. So do peanuts by the way, but seldom do you hear people worry about that. Serving this with rice makes for a very inexpensive meal, but you really need a little more food like some tuna sashimi with it with grated wasabi and some aged soy. Don't omit the sesame. It imparts a delicate flavor that to me needs to be in it. Come visit my 900+ posts on rational and practical prepping for getting closer to the Earth and God. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28837935 RED LENTIL SOUP sautee an onion, add one or two chopped carrots and celery stalks. Put in 3 cups red lentils and cover with water or broth. peel a couple potatoes and dice into small cubes, add it to the soup. Simmer until the lentils fall apart...and the potatos are cooked. Add salt and pepper and allspice. When done, serve with olive oil and lemon juice (to taste)...I like to add some sriracha sauce or something spicy for warmth...your choice. I've never cooked or eaten lentils.......but I'm going to try your recipe. Sounds awesome. I don't even have any allspice in my cupboard, but I'm gonna try it. Thanks. |

It has a special fragance that is very calming and centering. If you love you the ocean like I do, then there's something very magical about eating it. Most people screw it up because they try to avoid the heavy cream. Listen, use the cream, and then do more crunches. Life's too short to eat bad soup. Use something locally if you can't get crab. Try using fresh water prawns that a lot of locals are raising on old spent agricultural land. That works. [link to www.food.com] This guy must come from Viking stock.
