It was 92F in Indiana today with a dewpoint of 73 degrees. Air was so thick you could wear it. NOT pleasant.

When I lived in South Carolina, it was like that. It felt like you were walking into a wall when you went out the door. I don't miss that at all!
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

Tell me about it. And our air conditioner quit working so it was the same in my house! I found excuses to do laundry so I could stay in the basement...lol. At least I have that.
 Quoting: Jazzed

We lived in pre-WWII housing on the 2nd floor. Our ac was always going out! At least the windows all opened. Last time I saw some video of Parris Island, they had torn them all down.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

My son did his boot camp there. The day he graduated out it was so cold, they had to move it to the auditorium. People were freezing. The barracks looked like they were from that era. Especially the womens'. But that's our gub....all the good stuff gets saved for themselves and to heck with the guys that fight for them to have it.

They're actually not as old as you think, but they are old. I think most of them were built in the early 70's. You should've seen the commissary when we first got there. It was an old quonset hut. They built the "new" one in '82, I think. Oh, that was heaven!LOL Now that I think about it, the commissary at Kaneohe was a quonset hut, too. Housing was much newer there.

All I can remember is the faded yellow paint and how dilapidated they looked...lol. My son left there and went to NAS in Pensacola for 2 years. Then on to San Diego for another year. His next station was going to be Kaneohe Bay if he stayed in but he got out and came home. That was just before Iraq.

You know, every time O and troop goes to Kailua, I think of the Marines and their families at Kaneohe. It's hard enough over there. The officers beach houses used to be right off the enlisted beach. It was not a very nice beach, either. Every time the General had a hair you know where, they would close the beach. He wanted peace and quiet. I can just about imagine what it's like with O playing golf or the kids bowling there.

I realize talking about beaches, golf and bowling doesn't sound like a hard time, but that's about all there is to do. I was there a very long time ago, but I doubt much has changed. It was hard being white and military on Oahu. I hope Rev. Stargazer doesn't read this or be offended by it, but I was glad to leave. I'd never seen a cockroach before I lived there and we won't talk about the gekkos!LOL major culture shock. I did like Ala Moana shopping mall, though. All kinds of things never seen in Ohio! By the time we PCS'd, I had rock fever. I was ready to leave, even if it was to PI!

If I was a tyrannical despot I would wait until the hottest months of summer to put the screws to people. People are less likely to rise up, demonstrate or rebel when its 100 degrees outside. Just sayin...
 Quoting: BioReaper

Not really, bio. Statistically, that's when the worst riots happen. Violent crime is higher too. People's tempers are shorter when it's hot. If they want us to get out of control, though, they'll do it in the summer AND turn the power off.

I was thinking more along the lines of the heat sapping peoples energy. When its hot out, all I want is to sit by the ac with a cold beer lol

Things are extreme for the moment in the middleeast. Israel has called up the Golani division in a rapid unannounced drill. This coincides with Russia evacuating troops and staff out of Syria. There is a strong sense that Syria is ready to clash with Israel on the behalf of Iran. We have heard this before but, the time is now ripe and Israel staged its mock response in order to try to force Assad to back away from some very threatening military preparations. They are now waiting to see if Assad backs down from his ominous actions.

Alert for all.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "The reality around us is changing and it is explosive, and we must prepare accordingly... We must have the will to break the enemy and instill within it - at the moment of truth - the fear of death," he said. [link to www.ynetnews.com]

Ya'alon warned that Israel wouldn't tolerate a violation of its sovereignty or harm inflicted on IDF soldiers or Israeli civilians, either on the northern border or from the Gaza Strip. "It's important to clarify to all who are on the other side of the border, and who are planning to harm us in one way or another, that we are ready and determined to act with full force," Ya'alon said. Russia evacuates Tartus, also military, diplomatic personnel from Syria. High war alert in Israel
DEBKAfile Video Jun 26, 2013, 5:11 PM (IDT)

Shortly after DEBKA aired a special video on the Syrian war’s widening circle, Moscow announced Wednesday June 26, the evacuation beginning Friday of all Russian military and diplomatic personnel from Syria was complete, including its naval base at Tartus. “Russia decided to withdraw its personnel because of the fear of an incident involving the Russian military that could have larger consequences,” said a defense ministry official in Moscow. A 16-ship naval task force remains in the eastern Mediterranean. An unannounced Israeli war maneuver was conducted on the Golan.

It's that way for the military, too. When my husband retired, he was lost for a long time. He's a type A and doesn't do vacation/retirement very well. Even though he finally found a job that keeps up with him, I see him less than when he was active duty. It's taken me a couple of years to accept retirement wasn't going to be what we talked about, I still get mad sometimes.

I guess my point in the jumbled mess is, we've all got a part to play, whether we like it or not. Steve's right about it becoming who you are. We may be a retired military family, but that 30 years shaped us into who we are now. Thankfully, it was the "old school" military. I don't think we'd stick it out now.

I know your frustration and I wish I had some answers that are easy. I don't. The only one I have is to it over to G-d and keeping turning it over, every time you start to get upset. Pray for him and do it constantly. Even when you don't have words, G-d hears the groanings of your heart. Ask Him to send you peace and grace, but never, ever, EVER ask for patience! Seriously. You'll find yourself needing it. Get yourself into a mindset that you are not really alone, because you're not. Angels ARE watching over us all.

Be prepared folks. I am not one to predict stuff. Those here that have been on my buddy list for awhile know that. I got a strange call from someone that is kind- of shall we say " in the know." telling me to be extra vigilant for the next week or so. I pressed for more info and could not get it.

I trust this person enough to know they don't BS.

The world is going to hell and he cuts the forces. Is there any doubt where his loyalties lie?

Army to cut brigades at 10 US bases

In a massive restructuring, Army leaders said Tuesday that they will slash the number of active duty combat brigades from 45 to 33, as the service moves forward with a longtime plan to cut the size of the service by 80,000. And they warned that more cuts — of as many as 100,000 more active duty, National Guard and Reserve soldiers — could be coming if Congress allows billions of dollars in automatic budget cuts to continue next year.

Re: WORLD at WAR, OFFICIAL 2013 THREAD (Doom always only a moment away)
Well, doomy mood is again rising, lets check the facts:

Assad is on the winning side, Aleppo is the next syrian graveyard, and iranian / irakian / hisbollah involvment is changing the war luck of the lion of damaskus.
We still fund the sunnies, more or less extremists from Quatar to the al quaeda spectrum.

BUT, some things changed:
1) The great US / Russia divide, being intensified by the snowden "incident".
2) The build up by the shiites to open the golan front, in one form or another
3) Egypt is on the brink.
4) Apparantly russia getting their peers out of Syria

The question now are the following:
1) Is the US or an alliance US/GB and some sunni moslem kingdoms changing the level of engagement in Syria ?

--> I don't believe that Obama is going to get involved in Syria, not with only 400 troops in Jordan and not without a consent at home and certainly not without a public campaign to get the americans behing the flag. Even dumb Bush and his minions constructed a public opinion to justify his attack on Irak.

2) Is Assad going to open a "Golan front", thus declaring and entering into a hot war with Israel ?

--> Certainly not ! Everything is fine for Assad, arms, munitions, troops are pouring into the country, for the first time since the terrorists attacked, it looks like he is actually winning, he probably is carving out a shiite/allawite syria for him.

3) Does Israel has any interest into getting involved in Syria ?

--> Not at all. Either outcome is bad. Either there are the shiites under Assad, or the sunni extremists under al quaeda.
Best outcome would be a syrian split up and infighting. It looks like this scenario is the more likely.
_________________________________________________

So up until now, there is no need for a doomy mood, true, the dance is on a razors edge, but states and organizations tend to take decisions to stabilize a situation and not to add risk to its environment.

And that is due to new technologies and war fighting means.

In 20 years the wars are going to be fought with drones and robots, and some highly skilled military personal and special operation forces.

Large 19 century mass invading forces are out.

Sorry, my friend. I have to disagree with you on this one. These cuts are purely political. It happened before during the Clinton years. While it may be true that SOME of the cuts are what you say, the bulk are not. This is just another way for the administration to weaken our country.

As for the doom, well that's how we deal. We've all seen the dark side of mankind. Personally, I've found I can handle things better if I hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. I don't care to walk on the razor's edge unprepared.

Anybody else notice the number of frogs in the pot shouting 'come on in...the waters' fine!' lately?

Even this was foretold.

So sad.

From a GLP poster on another thread who states that she is not into this predicting stuff. She claims she doesn't believe in that.
