French soldier killed in Mali clashes - Hollande

A French paratrooper has been killed in northern Mali, according to French President Francois Hollande. The soldier died in “serious clashes with Islamists,” the President said in a statement. "His family has been notified. I will not say more for the moment," he added. The death marks France’s second fatality in Mali since it began its military intervention there last month. French troops entered Mali on January 11, aiming to prevent Islamist extremists from gaining territory as they seek to implement strict Sharia law throughout the country.

Re: WORLD at WAR, OFFICIAL 2013 THREAD (Doom always only a moment away)
This is like a nightmare scenario developing before our eyes.

North Korea and Iran are sharing nuclear and long range missile secrets. Their goal is simple. EMP's upon the US will lead to the destruction of the west. It used to be that we could prepare for years still as it was a non issue at the moment.

Now, 2013 - North Korea has a young mad-man in power willing to confront the west and destroy South Korea. Iran is trying to find a way to protect herself from an aggressive west that is set to confront her. She has found her partner and there is a pact. Instead of years before an EMP blast over the US, I say it is merely 6-12 months out.

The goal of Iran is to immobolize the US whereas a serious war against Israel by the Hezbollah and surrounding nations will result in defeat for Israel as the US is not there to assist with arms. Further, Iran can become nuclear self-sufficient in quick-time while the US is paralyzed by mysterious EMP nuclear blasts. Meanwhile, a nation hit by EMP's cannot react to a North Korean invasion of South Korea.

THIS IS MY WARNING TO ALL, MIL MAN DOES NOT SEE A WAY OUT OF THIS PREDICAMENT WITH THE CURRENT US ADMINISTRATION. INSTEAD WE WILL SOON FACE OUR DESTRUCTION!

I dare say, have a nice day!

Latest Bombshell - Agent X was double agent may have been spying for Iran

The agent was arrested in February 2010, shortly after the Mossad had murdered the weapons dealer of Hamas in Dubai. Now there's speculation that Zygier was involved in that killing, and that he may have divulged secrets. Or did he have something to do with the killings of Iranian scientists or software attacks against Iran's nuclear program?...

Australian Jews are particularly attractive to the Mossad because of a quirk in the law: Australians are allowed to change their first and last names once a year. It's a wonderful way to adopt a new identity....

But in 2009 their repeated name-changing aroused the interest of the Australian authorities -- especially when Zygier handed in his old passports, filled with Iranian entry visas. Paul Y. spent a lot of time in Syria, Iran, Egypt and Dubai. David Z., too, travelled to Iran several times. That wasn't just evident from his passport stamps. During one trip in 2004, he sought help from the Australian consulate in Tehran.

Yup...I've been working one of those countries. We have to bring in all of our own people. They have made it clear that they don't like us, our clients or our mission in their sectors. They are constantly probing our security looking for a soft underbelly. Most business targets can only be hardened to a point, then the security begins to affect their ability to perform their necessary activities to further their business interests. If the political climate doesn't change here in the next 6 months or so I see most Western corporations shutting down operations and pulling out. French special ops folks have been kicking ass, but they do not have the manpower to leave behind once they have retaken a town. They are having to leave it to the African troops who have varying levels of discipline. French and African forces have focused on retaking population centers, such as Gao, Kidal and Timbuktu, leaving several roads and large swaths of desert unsecure. The intensity and success of such attacks will vary, but the capabilities of the militants could improve over time, and effective networks designed to support insurgent attacks could develop. Bottom line...it's not looking good here...
I know the voices aren't real, but man do they come up with some great ideas!

IMO - if client's assets are in the North, it's not going to get better. When Mali actually had a government, it really didn't control the North and that was when Gaddafi provided a safety valve.

Northern Mali has been in a constant state of low-grade warfare since 1960s - right now that war is simply at a higher temperature. Even if you gave Tuaregs' their own state (Azawad) - the various tribes/castes would still fight.

Add drug smuggling & heavy armaments to the mix... Good luck

With this bunch, you know it was frivolous and insubstantial and also likely childish in nature. However, for O's second term he will make sure all is substantial and serious for all international action inlcuidng begging Iran to stop, but make sure it is first preceded by US aid (not charity) and then if all else fails food stamps for the World!

The US has second and third strike capabilities.

Even if an EMP weapon would come through (which I doubt), the place from where it would be fired from, would not exist anymore until the sun goes super nova.

Lil' Kim or even the mullahs know that, and I am pretty sure they have no regrets getting others killed to advance their plans, but just not themselves.

Thats why i doubt that scenario.

Plenty of reasons:

1) during the last years the inner power structure in China changed: the military became one of the top power players. Chines military are nationalistic, hawkish, and hell bend on turning the tide of being not anymore the one superpower they used to be.

2) culture: Face saving culture in the mix of being credible. China has lots of non resolved border issues. If they do not take a stance now, they loose face.

3) The sankaku island (or whatever they are called) have a strategic value. Also in terms of resources, but foremost in terms of access for the navy to the high seas. The island chains, up until taiwan, encircle and prevent them free movements.

4) Politics: The new chinese king kong has been "elected" very recently, he himself is nationalistic, and needs to find his place in the chinese internal politics power structure. He called to the chinese armed forces to be battle ready this year.

5) The american politics in this area is to tie china down with multiple security pacts with various countries, arms deals, military contacts, insurances and thus to contain China in the long run.
Changing that, means for China, at one time, to bite, if they do not, everybody will believe they have no teeth.

6) Japan just elected a nationalistic right party under Abe, who cannot and will do any deals about the islands. Thus there is no middle ground.

7) Historically, the chinese have a bone to pick with Japan, not only to mention the wars in the 18th century, where China lost one battle after the other, but culminating into the Nanking massacre, which up until today is an open wound in every chinese heart.

8) To increase China's voice and the importance of its opinion on issues, to increase their negotiating power, they need to proof to have the guts to kick asses if it must be.

9) China builds military naval places right next to the arab gulf. Their increase contacts, economical and military, in south america and africa. Chinese hackers hack US industry and security computers on a daily basis. Chinese military have the ability to shoot down satellites.
Chinese fonds buy as crazy ports all over the world, industries all over the world, land all over the world.

China has a plan, and the military component of this plan needs to be put on the table one day.

This will be this year. I think.

By the way, contrary to the narrative of this article, I am not sure at "what manner" the US would be ready to use military means against China.

I'd rather think, that the US would "grant" china victories, in order to have a "partner" or "stability" in the long run.

Appeasement.

An expanding and power hungry china just has the obligation to test how far "appeasement" would go.

They would be stupid not to take away the gains up until the "final" document underwritten by some chinese third class deputies LOL LOL LOL.

The times are changing, dependencies, new situations and new considerations are always taking effect and the analysis what to do exactly in the face of an adversary is constantly shifting:

I'd rather think, that the US would "grant" china victories, in order to have a "partner" or "stability" in the long run.

Appeasement.

An expanding and power hungry china just has the obligation to test how far "appeasement" would go.

They would be stupid not to take away the gains up until the "final" document underwritten by some chinese third class deputies LOL LOL LOL.

The times are changing, dependencies, new situations and new considerations are always taking effect and the analysis what to do exactly in the face of an adversary is constantly shifting:

Thats what I said above, a "short and decisive military victory".

New IAEA Report Shows Iranian Nuclear Advances

Days before Iran sits down with the United States and five other countries to discuss its nuclear program, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran is planning to use an ostensibly civilian facility to test fuel for a reactor that can yield plutonium

The finding was among several troubling elements in the new report, which also said that since November, Iran has installed more than 2,250 additional centrifuges at its main uranium enrichment plant at Natanz for a total of 12,669 centrifuges.

Iran has also begun to place more advanced centrifuges at Natanz and has increased its stockpile of 20%-enriched uranium from 135 kilograms to 167 kilograms— closer to, if still below, a threshold of 240-250 kilograms necessary to produce enough material for one nuclear weapon.

Bibi says new report shows Iran closer to nuclear bomb

FSA and Hezbollah inch toward war, Lebanon in the crossfires again

Recent clashes between members of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Hezbollah militias across the Syrian-Lebanese border have raised the specter of a regional spillover of the Syrian war, with Lebanon once again being caught in the crossfire.

The threat of war was raised Wednesday by FSA Chief of Staff Brigadier General Salim Idriss. In an interview with Al Arabiya Idriss gave Hezbollah 48 hours to cease its military operations in Syria or face attacks on its installations inside Lebanon.

Prior to that announcement, there have been sporadic cross border clashes between Hezbollah members and the Free Syrian Army.
