Ashton, I'm going to make you a promise, ok? I rarely make them. I've had too many that were made to me, broken.

I promise you that if TSHTF and we both can get or are on the forum, I will start a thread for us. We can be scared together with several thousands of our GLP friends. OK? I'll cyber hold your hand. I promise.

I had to look that up! German was outlawed in my home county since WWI and I don't think they've ever repealed the laws. We begged and begged in grade school and jr. high to have German when we got to high school. Didn't happen. They did get it a few years later, but then dropped it for Mandarin. I don't know what they're teaching now.

That's really creepy!!! You have NO idea how true that is!

*edit to add... Yeah, you do!LOL

If you ever get bored, look up the Black Swamp region in NW Ohio. Lot's of pretty cool history. Even War of 1812 and French and Indian War. The whole area was reclaimed land and mainly settled by Germans. By the time my generation was growing up, the only things left of our ancestors were the family bibles and some recipes. Oh, and a very few words, mostly mis-pronounced!LOL

Here Germans are mostly either from Russia shortly after WWI or from West Germany or Austria (but LOTS originally from parts east) in the 1950s. And a sprinkling of descendants of late 19th century immigrants to German block settlements in Saskatchewan. Oh, and Mennonites. Lots of Mennonites and Hutterites. I never think of them as Germans, even though they're the only people speaking it at home for the most part. No German Jews -- maybe the occasional American professional passing through.

When I was a kid, my mom's hairdresser was Swiss -- poor Manfred spent half his time letting people know he wasn't German.

Most of the Germans from my area came over just after the Civil War. Ohio has lots of Amish and Mennonites, not sure about the Hutterites anymore. If there are, it's in small communities. The other day, I was trying to help a Mennonite at a local business. Most of them do speak Deutch, but the Mennonites here speak Spanish. They come up here from Mexico. This poor man didn't have the deutsch. He only spoke Spanish. I tried to talk to him in Nederland, it's close and I've been able to translate, sort of, before. Not this time. Thankfully, we're in West Texas!LOL

Nearly 200 airmen and 6 B-52s from the Minot Air Force Base are deploying to Guam tomorrow. The deployment comes days after North Korea`s leaders threatened air bases in Guam and Hawaii. Tensions have been escalating in Asia.
 Quoting: Gerry52

Several On-Topic topics -

Looks like Guam is getting pretty hot.

We auditors go everywhere. The Japan Sub-Office covers the Pacific Islands. It was a pretty sweet gig until Fukushima...

Guam has these snakes though. They come up through the toilets & try to eat your bits (it you're a guy) - scary.

I know some former ABC guys. They swear that Kennedy was killed by the Russians as an end-run around Krushchev. One guy wrote a gook about it - Secret History of the CIA.

What to do if a nuke hits? The tests on Bikini taught us the fall-out can be a risk hundred of miles from the blast site. The best bet - Shelter in place. The kids laugh at my mini survival kit of duct tape, plastic sheeting, disposable outerwear, breathing masks, food, water, iodine pills & chitin - but we live on the wrong side of Washington DC & chitin doesn't go bad...

I'm not scared, but then again I do live on the East Coast.

here's an article of those snakes - Invasion Of The Tree Snakes And
Other Coming In [link to nswk.ly]

I'll look for an article of chitin...

I second TB,

Nice to see you back NovaMom!!!

ASV, here are some articles of chelation - removing heavy metals (including radioactive isotopes) from your body after exposure. The at-home agents (Chitin, Baking Soda) are cheap & don't go bad, so why not keep a bottle/box?

[link to www.livestrong.com]

[link to www.bt.cdc.gov]
[link to orise.orau.gov]

Note - DOE protocols use DTPA for chelation; that stuff can mess you up & should not be self-prescribed b/c of scary article on ENENews.

My Chitin is shark cartilage. Probably wouldn't save me if the FSB gave me a Polonium cocktail, but if DC (30 miles as the crow flies) falls victim to suitcase nuke, it could help w/ any particles that get through my duct tape & prayer barrier...

Does the fact that I own a few bottles of Chitin make me crazy? It may be a symptom - Just sayin'

Final Post - the Experts agree with ASV

The U.S. official, commenting about the latest threats from the North, emphasized the danger posed by its military and the unpredictable nature of its 30-year-old leader.

“North Korea is not a paper tiger so it wouldn't be smart to dismiss its provocative behavior as pure bluster. What's not clear right now is how much risk Kim Jong Un is willing to run to show the world and domestic elites that he's a tough guy,” said the official, who asked not to be named. “His inexperience is certain -- his wisdom is still very much in question.”

Some would say yes, guess it depends on whether a whole bunch of missiles are fueld or say one or two.many missiles would be sufficient. If missiles are seen in satellite being loaded with warheads, that should be enough, bombs away.

Former US Soldier charged - fought w/ Al Nusra Front in Syria

A former US soldier has been charged with using a weapon outside the US as he fought against Syrian government forces, prosecutors say.

Eric Harroun, 30, served in the US Army from 2000-2003, and allegedly fought in Syria with the al-Nusra Front.

Ok for those of us newbies who HAVEN'T been been vaporized or otherwise been within the blast-radius before

what should we pack? What's the best way to deal with the North Korean nuke blast that's coming at you fast, getting all up in your gril like it know you?

I mean, normally I can handle hand-to-hand combat, but is it wise to engage a 50 KT worth of badness barreling right at you at those high speeds?

Maybe I could say "shoo, go away blast-wave, do you know who my father IS!"? Once the missile lands, can I pay it off say three-fiddy?

Again, I am not casting aspesians or shaking the blame stick or pointing any fingers here, Gerry. I'm saying it's YOU - it's your fault entirely. You just had to impugn Kim Jong Un's nonexistent manhood, his counter-productive hygiene habits & grotesque fatty appearance.

And now he/she is pissed off. The timeline doesn't lie.

Guys, can't stay on right now, family stuff. Cannon is about an hour NW of us. It was almost shut down in the last round of closures. They found a small mission for them. Not much there, last I was there. We're trying to remember what they have. A para-resue squad. and maybe a maintenance squad. I'll catch up with you later...if we aren't glowing by then.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

There's a drone mission there; probably what saved it from closing.
 Quoting: novamom

Hey novamom! Things good with you?

Cannon didn't have a drone mission when they were going to close it. Must be something since then. Wouldn't surprise me, but have you ever been to Clovis!?! Can't think of much I'd want to spy on!
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

HI, things are great now that hubby is back home.
I am 95% sure there is a drone mission there now. They operate the drones that are stationed over seas. There are a few places in the US that have those types of missions (not to mention more to come)
