This is a large motivational factor for the movements of China's military as reported yesterday.

I believe they see this event growing and creating major trouble for the FE, and if NK is getting hammered - it would be no stretch of the imagination to understand that many will attempt to flee into China - they're not going to flee to the East. Tunnels/ passageways are in place I'm sure to facilitate the crossing over into China, as they have been used for years - contributing to the aforementioned numbers of North Koreans already hiding in China - hiding from both their own (NK) government, as well as the Chinese government.

China could, however, also grant asylum and possibly even citizenship to those who chose to fight FOR china. Conscription for citizenship is not a new concept - even the US has practiced that policy - and could provide China with personnel that are familiar with the terrain/ geography.

I wonder if behind the scenes, the US isn't prodding NKorea to set one off covertly. Certainly would take away the attention of the Fukushima disaster with all the radiation leakage, especially after a limited nuke exchange.

the answer could be "just in case". that's the reason behind most of what the US military (or any military)does when they're not actually fighting.

By Tuesday, April 2, the assault force had come within 1.5 kilometers of its target.
This prompted an urgent visit by Israel’s top security officials to the Golan border for a close assessment of the situation.

On his first visit to the Golan border, the defense minister said that Israel had in the past and would in the future prevent the proliferation of weapons that could “threaten us.”

Chinese army urged to strengthen combat preparedness

A senior Chinese military official has called on the armed forces to strengthen combat preparedness and ensure victories in wars.

Fan Changlong, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks during an inspection tour of troops stationed in east China's Jiangsu, Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.

The army should always maintain its readiness and fighting abilities to ensure victory, Fan said.

He urged all military staff to comprehend and implement the key points conveyed in a speech last month by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CMC.

"Military officers and soldiers must be absolutely loyal, pure and reliable, and firmly follow the directions of the Central Committee of the CPC, Central Military Commission and chairman Xi," Fan said.

Fan is also a Political Bureau member of the CPC Central Committee.

He urged military staff to step up training, especially in complex situations such as electromagnetic environment and field operations.

Training must be strict and targeted to meet real wartime needs rather than a show, he said.

We have to break away from the myopic view that each of the current "hot spots" are individual situations.

Russia, China, Iran/ Syria, NK, Pakistan are all interconnected, and will ultimately bite us in the rear as a result of this alignment - but no one wants to hear.

OT - Background Information on the 2 Canadian Militants killed in Amenas (attack on Algerian gas plant).

One attacker was described as "happy-go-lucky" person. The other man was Greek; converted to Islam.
