My dog is making me nervous
She's an old 11yo Golden Retriever. Most of the time she's very level headed. She hates fireworks, but most things do not bother her. But SOMETHING is bothering her. She won't leave my side. She's starting at the front door. There is nobody setting off fireworks yet. She is very nervous and anxious.

I've never seen the dog act this anxious without a known reason before. we are in Southern California...I will be looking for a flashlight before I go to bed, and making sure my emergency light is plugged in.

Happy New Year :)

Re: My dog is making me nervous
maybe youd like to learn how to speak dogese-yes im serious.
There could be something bothering your dog legitimately(go check your yard etc -it is NYE)
good chance shes just hearing partying and movement when shes used to calmness at night.
Calming signals are things dogs do(especially when meeting new dogs or in new environments)to let each other know theyre cool and everythings ok.
yawning/sighing
lip licking
walking in arcs
and a few other things are valid in this case(some of the others relate specifically to what dogs do around crowds and groups of dogs so i wont mention them.

When she looks worried-do nothing, turn your head away from her, and yawn-as if to say-no big deal, everythings that ok and boring im yawning(stressed creatures dont yawn)sigh a bit(sign youre relaxed) and lick your lips.
Calming signals ar an excellent way to calm reactive dogs-in dogese.

Re: My dog is making me nervous
It's probably the fireworks...She may be hearing some that you simply cannot.

But for the sake of vagueness, animals oftentimes sense things, so keep an eye open whilst you snooze. You know your pup and know when something isn't right.

Happy new year to you as well. :)
