Let me start by stating that I was raised in the Catholic church. I went to Catholic school, I was baptized and confirmed, and went to church every Sunday.

At a certain age, my mom told me that from that point on, I would not be 'forced' to go to church anymore....that I could make up my own mind. I have not stepped foot in a church since.

Deep in my heart, I never believed any of what was being shoved down my throat. It just didn't make sense.

Religion is the attempt by humans to explain that which can not be explained. HOW did we get here? WHY are we here? WHAT happens after death?

Human nature dictates that we naturally fear the unknown. Hence, we make up stories and explanation for that which we can't explain. Enter religion.

For most people, without a 'default' explanation of those three questions, they couldn't move on with their lives.

I am just fine with no explanation.

Hence, I am Atheist.

I am an Atheist because I am a rational thinker. It is also the same reason I don't believe in all of the countless "Gods" humankind has dreamed up. Google, List of Gods and see what you find. How many of these Gods do you believe in and why don't you believe in all the others?

Most atheists are agnostics.
In fact so are many theists.

Theism-atheism is about what you believe about gods, gnostic-agnostic is about what you believe is knowable.

The meaning of atheist seems to be confused. Many seem to use the word only with respect to the Christian god. I was not brought up as a Christian and only saw a bit of it in my teens. So naturally I would be atheist with respect to Christianity.
