Lawmaker: Tweak Constitution to affirm gun rights
: Lawmaker: Tweak Constitution to affirm gun rights

A state lawmaker in Montana is proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution to deal with the suggestion from Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., that would require Americans to register their guns, and critics say, would even lead to their confiscation.

Feinstein’s idea has been labeled “treason” on a White House petition site, and has earned the ire of Rep. Jerry O’Neil, R-Columbia Falls, who told WND he’d like to see some changes made to protect state’s rights and the rights protected by the Second Amendment.

--- snip ---

Interestingly the first proposed amendment would change one word within the so-called "commerce clause". Replacing the word "among" with the more restrictive "between" would have the effect of limiting the federal governments' interference in commerce conducted within a states boundries.

The second proposal would insert the words "subject to this Constitution" into Article 2, Section 2 dealing with the power of the President to make treaties. This would limit the Presidents power to enter into treaties which, on their face, would infringe the rights of Americans i.e. the UN Small Arms Treaty.

Both are arguably good amendments to our founding document. We shall see if either of these proposals gains any traction in the current political environment which seems to be plunging headlong into collectivist globalism. But it is refreshing to see that somebody out there within the political system still has a brain - and the will to use it!
