It's seems to be concentrated on just that one spot. I'm no astonomer, just took a photo and would like to know what is the phenomenom? Obviously has something to do with light refraction and spotlights :P |

| Reality420 User ID: 24847476 01/01/2013 05:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Took this photo of the moon Quoting: Man in the Moon 31115631 IMAGE ( [link to farm9.staticflickr.com] ) [link to farm9.staticflickr.com] it's unedited. just want to know what are those bright dots all over it? Craters. [link to www.oarval.org] I'd suggest you download the image and then rotate it 180° so that south is up and north is down to match your Australian view. You'll then see, for example, that the bright spot in your image on the 4:00 line is #73 = Crater Aristarchus. And, of course, #60 = Crater Tycho, perhaps the most noticeable crater on the moon. The bright ones are relatively young impacts. Aristarchus is estimated to be ~450 million y.o. so "young" is truly relative. hth. R. |
