You see the fica tax (social security tax) was reduced from 6.2% to 4.2%, overall a 4.4% reduction in social security contributions counting employer contribution. If as stated the contribution continues for those earning over $110k, social security will be solvent for the next 72 years, which means YOU, working stiff, will collect the full benefit when you retire. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 31326297 United States 01/02/2013 01:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is no difference between Republicans or Democrats. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2208637 I don't care what you say. Democrats are just as big of assholes as the Republicans. Both parties have ruined this country. You guys keep talking about them like they are "apples and oranges". They are both fucking apples. They are sour and hold no allegiance. Both parties waited once again until the last minute. And to be honest who cares about this "fiscal cliff" So they extended complete hell for two months. That just means in two months they will be having the same conversation. We have also already hit our debt ceiling in which Obama will require it to be raised so he can continue to drill our pockets and print more money. You all need to be paying attention to the Feinstein bill. If this passes we will have war. War?! Only wish. No one will get up and fight. On another thread yesterday, a Greek person stated: Now ironic... If we the Greeks have your wepons America, we'll make our government vaporize! ^^^ This! So how would you possibly expect anyone to... ahem... "get up and fight", when even TALKING about it can get you visited, or even indefinitely detained? If the Greeks had a "government" like AmeriKa, they wouldn't be quite as full of bravado. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7983438 Not everyone thinks paying more tax when a country is at war and it's economy is shit is a terrible thing to happen. are you deliberately being stupid? higher taxes on working class citizens is not the answer when the democrat donors are given tax exemptions and pay nothing. what part of that don't you get? for instance, General Electric made billions in profits last year and paid "0" (ZERO!) dollars in taxes. that is the complaint. You think because I support reasonable tax rates on people that I'm ok with corporations doing whatever the fuck they want? You make a lot of assumptions. why is it the only time you british assholes approve of what the american government does is when they are taxing the hell out of the average american citizen? how come we only hear from you when the american government is inflicting british style healthcare that we don't want on us? pay attention to your own country and quit your whining about american "influence" on your culture. we have euro/british influence on our government which is far worse. well said dear |

Among the households facing higher taxes, the average increase would be $1,635, the policy center said. How many of them owe debt from credit cards? How many bought cars and houses beyond their means? I am not trying to point the finger at anybody, but let's be honest here - the biggest variable on a capitalist economy is the middle class. In my opinion, we should have the (perceived) worst of both worlds - we should raise taxes, and we should cut spending. In the business sector, imcreasing revenue while decreasing costs is just common sense. Why can't it be common sense in Washington? Am I a guy, or am I a lesbian with a penis? |

Why is it that in the so-called modern industrial democratic nations, there appears to be a choice between only two parties? Sure, there might be a million other parties on the ballot paper to choose from, but only one of two MAJOR parties seem to end up in charge. This is true of Australia, where only Liberal or Labor run the show. America, Democrats and Republicans. The U.K., same shit (can't remember the names) and probably the same situation for many other nations. InterMezzo User ID: 1336169 Netherlands 01/02/2013 02:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You know what the sad thing is in all this Democrats vs Republican fighting? The fact that most of you as Americans fail to realize that there is no such thing anymore as Democrats and Republicans. As there is no such thing as Labor Parties and Liberal Parties or Christian Democratic Parties anymore over here in Europe or where ever else. In the past (decades ago) people voted from a social or religious background for people who at least stood for what they believed in, whether that was wrong or right in the eyes of others. Nowadays politics have become X-factor in your face media shows without any real political color (even though they still try to make us believe there is), where one-liners and degrading the opponents rule the stage. Whether their name is Obama, Romney, Merkel, Berlusconi, Monti, Sarkozi, Hollande, Rutte, Samson or whatever, they are merely actors in a continuous world stage play, controlled by the puppet masters behind the curtain. And we as people, the audience, boo them and eachother from our red or blue tribune. It is the longest running stage play on earth, where every show is sold out till the last chair! Of course, the current actors will be laid off too at one point in time, sooner or later, but it will only prove to be a Phyrrus Victory, because they are replaced by a new group of actors with the same masks and the same lines. And we, the audience, keep paying the entrance fees at an increasing rate. Only when we as society start to realize that we need to find common ground and combine strenghts to end this stage play, without the burden of present political background or color and take care of those who struggle in times of need and also benefit together in times of prosperity, instead of emphasizing weakness of our fellow humans, we might have a chance to slow down the rapid derailing of that same society by those who really run the show. If we fail to see that need, this society will increase in getting colder and colder, a world without compassion for those who can not run fast enough to make it, while those in charge, the über rich oligarchs of this world, keep pulling the strings of all of us from their throne. Bottom line: quit thinking political color, stop degrading eachother, but go from respect and finding strenghts in eachother to combine in order to make this society a better place for all. Make no mistake, we are none the same, we are all unique, with whatever skills we might have. That uniqueness is not a curse, but a blessing. It is about time we cash in those blessings by accepting eachothers uniqueness. Of course, many of you will say I am naive in my thinking, but I rather be naïve and and die standing tall, than to give in to fear, bend over and accept what others think I should accept. Just my, probably way to long, two cents. |
