Looks like it's flying in circles to me?
Could some sort of ultra-magnetic piece of asteroid or coment got caught in some sort of manetic rip-tide / whirlpool and then bounced back out into space?
Eh.. just a thought.. I like the UFO recharing it's ship idea better though.
