Why the clown in the other thread deleted posts from other users when he was shown the he was wrong!

He has a Metric shit ton of FOOLISH and WRONG information he is handing out.. I would look elsewhere for anything resembling truth, especially in these times.

Thank you for this! That fool banned me from his thread because I pointed out he is giving out bad or downright false information.

He keeps getting his thread pinned and he is giving horrible advice. Sometimes, he repeats something someone else told him that is actually decent, but its not from his own skill, its just regurgitated info.

Okay, now for a question, do you recommend night sights for handguns?

I apologize for not getting back to this sooner..

I see dummies keep pinning his crap.. stupid move. It was 8 pages.. then 6 he deleted two pages of posts by folks that had forgotten more than he knows. If the idiot wants to show up here i welcome the opportunity to show what a fool he is.

The idiot banned me from his horrible thread as well, I just hope that the fuckstick gets ignored for what he is.

Ok as to your question, No I do not recommend night sights for pistols. I have personal experience with them at 0-dark thirty and being awoken from a dead sleep. When you first open your eyes they are VERY light sensitive. even the small amount of light from night sights really destroy your vision when you need it most.

Handguns are for first line defense and immediate action, or as I prefer to say to fight your way to a rifle.

The ccw handgun should be a small package of stout caliber, It is a "get the fuck off of me gun" At the ranges CCW carry guns are to be used.. one does not even need sights.. much less night sights.

Practice COM and CNS shooting at close ranges without sights.. that is how the pistol will be used.

I cannot remember everything..

I saw a reference to .32 acp being all the gun you need.

That is flat wrong, .25 acp, and 32 acp are very underpowered as defensive cartridges.

Give me a good catchers mitt and I will catch the 25 at 50 yards.

A .32 might be ok if you are on the floor wrestling with someone, you could screw it in his ear and change his mind.. but a .32 will not even get a deranged persons attention.

A CCW pistol should be a pistol that is compact in size, easily concealable, with no protrusions the will hang up on clothing. It should be stainless or coated with something such as Nickle Boron to keep sweat and moisture from affecting it.

It should be in a caliber that preferably starts with a "4".

The "J" frame 38's are a good choice as well with the right ammo.

A 32 is just not enough gun.

As an example, i am also a gunsmith. I was restoring a french FAB .32 from WWII for a guy. it was missing parts and I had to make some. I misjudged contact surfaces on the new firing pin i had made. I cocked the pistol and was preparing to test fire it. When i picked it up off the counter it went off.

The bullet traveled across the room, went through 1/2 inch of drywall and stopped in a wall stud after less than an inch.

a quick dab of compound and paint covered it.

I am not saying they won't kill.. If you have to use a CCW hat is the intent, but if the person you are defending against is on drugs or even lots of adrenalin, that little 32 is not even going to get his attention.

understand this.. A rifle is better than a shotgun is better than a pistol.

I a serious defensive situation any rifle or carbine is going to be a much better choice than a handgun.

1. I do not like them at all and think you should read the review at this link befor you buy one, and would recommend a Ruger 380 LCP, or even a
Beretta .32 Auto as a good CCW Firearm.

That is what I was referring to.. That little LCP has half the barrel the WWII gun did.. that means even LESS energy, speed and expansion of ANY bullet that leaves the muzzle.

Bad choice.

Like I said before I love the Glock-19 for my CCW weapon, but do not recommend it for a novice shooter do to the Safe Action Trigger (Lack of a Safety)

I’m not a fan of the 1911 style of safety that the Springfield XD has on it all. I’ve saw them mess up to many times in the past and cause a Major malfunction.

Pure crap.. first the Springfield is a COPY of the glock witha grip safety added. it does not have a manual safety, just a passive one... the same as his "glock 19" which by the way is a "beginners gun"

The fact the 1911 has been in production and being carried and shot by anyone worth a damn speaks volumes about the pistols design. it is straight forward and utilitarian.

I personally carry a 1911 and it goes bang everytime... yeas, i only have nine rounds... but if I cannot get out of it in nine rounds, I most likely should not have gotten into it.

contrary to hollywoods silly dreams.. people do NOT have extended gunfights with a pistol.

Sheep (90% of People)
Wolfs (8% of people) (they hurt and take advantage of the 90%)
And Sheep dogs (2% of people) they protect the 90% from the 8%.

CCW = Sheep Dog

CRAP! That is the kind of drivel that runs out of the suckhole of an idealistic kid.

There are two types of people. Those that have made the decision to be responsible for their own safety and well being... and those that will rely on others to do it for them.

99% of all shooting take place within 21 feet. A .32 Auto is just as good as a 9mm at that close of range with the proper ammo in it. (Personal protection Ammo) The Question was about a pocket Firearm for a CCW Firearm. The .32 Auto is great for that you start moving up to 9mm and it gets way to balky.

As far as a revolver. It is a very safe Firearm. With the Double Action Trigger that most modern revolvers have today there is NO WAY that you will pull that trigger is less you want it pulled. Unlike some of the Automatics that have a hair trigger on it. The safety on the Revolver is the trigger.

CRAP!

First of all no one that is educated in proper firearms terminology uses the expression.. "hair trigger" that is just retarded.

Roughly 75% of all handgun encounters will happen inside of SEVEN FEET!

Yes you read that right.

what doofus up there is referring to is the 21 foot rule, which in reality should be stretched a bit further. It is the methodology of an attacker armed with a knife.. if he is closer than 21 feet, in most situations he will be able to close and cut you before you can deploy your handgun froma holster or concealment.

It has nothing to do with 99% of anything.

Inside seven feet and often at contact distance is where the vast majority of handgun encounters take place. Those are the distances you should train for. train to defend against a handgun deployed inside your reach and to use a handgun in close quarters to contact distances.

This is where the action will happen.

Re: I am an ACTUAL Rifle / Pistol ? and survival instructor.. ask me:
Thanks, that's logical.

So the main points as I understand them, are:
(1) plastic body is too affected by sweat, certain metal bodies like stainless or coated are better.

(2) need .38 or higher caliber

(3) longer barrel is worth the difficulty it brings in carrying / concealing, or if snub-nosed it has to be even higher caliber.

(4) handgun isn't enough, should also have a rifle even for home defense.

Please correct / elaborate if I'm not saying the right thing.

Actually in my state (NY) the rifle is easy, no permit needed. It's the handguns that need a permit, and in turn the Journal-News published the addresses of the permit holders in my county. (May the Journal News go out of business shortly for this unforgivable error.)

the fact that this silly statement is still there shows that he knows very little about the M-16 / AR-15 family of carbines and rifles.. the most common sporting rifle in the entire country.

That question is one that is a whole mouthful..

there are a TON of rifles out there that are designed for a TON of different uses.

The use is what is going to be what determines what rifle I would recommend.

You are correct and a revolver has less moving parts so there is less of a chance of getting a malefaction that would be hard for a novice to clear and put back in action.
CRAPO
Revolvers have "less" moving parts? some do.. some don't. this is NOT a standard.

Each type of handgun has its good points and sometimes issues.. even down to model and brand.

I have no idea what a "malefaction" is but the easiest way to put a double action revolver back in action is to... get ready... squeeze the trigger again.

Re: I am an ACTUAL Rifle / Pistol ? and survival instructor.. ask me:
Focus on your trigger control. Most errors in pistol shooting happen because of an uneven, fast or jerky trigger finger.

The most common errors for left of target hits. (If you are a right handed shooter) are:

Not enough trigger. In other words, your finger is touching the trigger on the right side as opposed to down the center, This can produce a left push as you pull through the trigger.

Tightening the grip as you fire.

Anticipating the recoil can cause you to push the gun (should produce a high left hit. 10-11 o clock

Jerky trigger should produce a 6.30-7.30 hit

Not enough trigger will be a dead left.. 9 o clock.

Tightening the grip should land your shots between the 7-8.30 position.

These are simplified diagnostic tools.

To check yourself. Have a friend load a magazine with a snap cap hidden somewhere in the stack. You will see your problem when pulling the trigger on that round. You just can't know where or when in the magazine it's coming.

If problems persist, find a qualified and GOOD instructor to check your shooting.

The modified weaver stance tends to bring the sights closer to your eyes, which makes the rear sight notch appear bigger, which produces a lot of "airspace" between the notch and the front sight.

Try to shoot isosceles with a positive grip to identify if the problem is an alignment one. But consistent hits to one side rarely are.

This is all good advice.

Questions by "Lester"

Mr/Ms Instructor....

Don't shoot revolvers? No NRA revolver contests anymore?

I still shoot revolvers, i have a model 10 that i run and a GP-100 as well. I last shot a match several years ago.
Although at the time I competed in IPSC with a 1911, I shot bullseye with a MK-II that i had worked over and IDPA with my 1911 and model 10.

No opinion on Double-Action versus Single-Action mechanisms or trigger pull techniques?

I have an opinion.. i prefer single actions. Always have, i like the fact they are repeatable and can be adjusted to break the same at lighter pulls than a double action.

Double action is alright for a close use CCW but for a target gun, never.

Any opinion on cartridge effectiveness/reliability?

Preferences.. .45 acp 230 grain.. i will shoot 185 gr in my compact.

>357, I prefer the 125 gr to the heavier bullets except for in the carbine.. then its 158 all the way.

>38 special, 148-200 gr reversed wadcutters for self defense rounds over blue dot or unique.

There are lots of dead fuckers from 230 gr ball.

Do you shoot J-frame or K-frame short barrel .357mag with factory magnum loads as effectively as the light-pistol rounds which are .30cal to .40s&w?

My K of course.. i carried a 640 for many years, i do like the "j" frame a lot. I shoot all pistols just as well and effectively, I am not recoil sensitive and never have been, magnums have however had an effect on my hearing.

Do you shoot same scores with 10mm auto or .45acp that you do with 9mm or .40s&w?

Yes.. once again.. i dont mind recoil.

Do you shoot double-action magnums from 4" or under hideout class revolvers with same quickness and precision as 9mm para, etc?

1911 and GP-100 are both about the same, my model 10 or j-frame is a bit more difficult to be as precise.. but then again, that is not their role.

Do you hold Master or High Master designation?

master when i competed in the 80's

To be an "NRA Instructor" are you required to achieve a competitive ranking or designation?

They don't have any requirements. Anyone can be an instructor as long as you pass the test.

The old adage is: Those that can, do; those that can't; teach.

I only instruct for certain folks anymore.. and i have to know them before i do.

Were you an accomplished competitor or one who has been schooled to "teach" the NRA course for rifle and handgun marksmanship and safety?

I shot at camp perry years ago, I have been a long range hunter for decades. I competed with both rifle and handgun and did very well in my younger days.

Today I shoot but don't compete. i instruct but only those i have gotten to know. i teach long range shooting to novices with a marlin 880-SQ that I have gone through. it is a great tool to teach drop, windage, spin drift and really dials in the tenets of long range shooting. i set 3x4 inch targets at 200 yards for that.

I instructed in the military, completed the US ARMY sniper school at Ft benning,

qualified with the M-21, M-40, M-24 and M-107

I have qualified with the M-72 law, the M-2HB, The M-203, the M-16 a1, a2 and M-4.

The M-60, M-249, M-3a1 and MP5SD.

I had quite a few years working on those skillsets.. ;)

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30670070

In that case I would recommend an AR-15.. problem is, getting one.

The AK platform is useful in this regard as well, just do not expect that it is going to be accurate. they are not and never will be.

My first recommendation would be a 16" AR-15.. mainly because of the availability of mags ammo and extras.. although it makes no sense to turn a light fast handling carbine into a heavy carbine with a ton of shit hanging on it.

KISS keep it simple son.

After that I would look at the Mini series of carbines, ruger has done a good job on them and i use a mini-30 pretty regularly for shooting hogs out to 300. They are a short range carbine that can be used in a defensive role if needed.

Full size .308 (7.62x51) battle rifles are heavy, expensive and hard to feed.. The FN-FAL or FSL is a fine battle rifle.. but it also weighs ten pounds and will take you some time to get used to.

After that you have therifles that you might be able to get today.. i do not feel undergunned with a model 94 winchester in 30-30 or a pistol caliber 92 carbine.

neither of them look like "evil black rifles" either and are fast handling and hard hitting.

I have both.

You may be able to find a 94 and the ammo is abundant.

Bolt actions take a lot of practice and skill to operate, quickly and accurately.

A 12 ga. shotgun in a 20 inch barrel might be an option as well. Look to remington.. i have had mossbergs fail on me and shoot #4 or 00 buck. Do not use birdshot as a defensive load.

No matter what you get, make sure you get enough ammo to practice with and be PROFICIENT.. that is not two boxes and you have one and a half left.

you need to develop skill and good habits.. that is going to take no less than several hundred rounds.

Good luck!

Re: I am an ACTUAL Rifle / Pistol ? and survival instructor.. ask me:
I did.. you are posting in it dumbass..

so do you actually have a question for a KNOWLEDGEABLE instructor, or are you going to continue to whine like a bitch about your "boy"?

Listen....if you are legit....then go ahead.
...but I watched trolls shit all over his thread from the first page on even when he was saying some good stuff.
I even told him on there to just delete the hater posts.

It's not about the info per se....but about many being TROLLS and THREAD BOMBERS when he was genuinely trying to help people out.
There are NICE ways to tell him he was wrong (if you felt that)...and then obnoxious ways.
You AC trolls chose the later.....and he acted accordingly.

Enjoy your thread.

Oh fuckin-A skippy I am "legit" and I will enjoy my thread.

Fact is, in this world where bad information can get poorly educated folks hurt, killed, wounded or scarred physically and emotionally for life.. we that have to carry this mantle will call bullshit in an instant, and we typically ain't all that nice about it.

He should realize that by now if he has ever spent time in a training scenario with REAL trainers that have skill sets.

he is headed for a world of heartbreak with his attitude and lack of knowledge.

I hope to dispel the myths he has already perpetrated.

have a nice night.

It is my experience that people who denigrate other people and brag about their own skills in relation to the person they are denigrating don't have anything worth listening to.

A lot of this is personal preference and not graven in stone as you seem to think, evidently because you say so.

No thanks and have a nice night.

Re: I am an ACTUAL Rifle / Pistol ? and survival instructor.. ask me:
What sort of rifle would you recommend?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30670070

That question is one that is a whole mouthful..

there are a TON of rifles out there that are designed for a TON of different uses.

The use is what is going to be what determines what rifle I would recommend.

Let me know what your intended use for the rifle would be and I will help narrow the focus.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31179007

My main interest, maybe only interest, would be defense of the home. That rifle I would fight my way to, with the pistol. I am not a hunter and don't feel a desire to become one.

Good luck!

Thanks very much, this gives me a place to start. I may have to get armed since my neighbors with permits just got outed, it's my turn to step up.

Mmmm Hmmm.. sure.

just like 69 grain bullets out of the 1/7, right?..

I guess that is part of your personal experience as well?

sorry pal.. that is not personal preference.. it is scientific fact, part of an area of study known as ballistics.

That is most definitely "graven" in stone as you want to call it.
No need to reiterate.. folks with sense will see the light.

No need to respond.. you obviously think everyone is equal on this rock when it aint the case.

You have a right to your opinions but that does not mean they are right.
