Quoting: Goofy for God
I've been coughing up phlegm pretty much every morning since June. I thought it was a reaction to inhaling some water in the Dead Sea (you really shouldn't do that, it burns), but it still hasn't gone away. Quoting: The Guy
I took 2 Azithromycin 500 mg stopped coughing and some prednisone see if you can get some
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotics that has some benefits. It can be taken once per day, which improves compliance with meds. (Less meds, more chances people will take it all. Take ALL of your antibiotics even if you feel better.)
It does have issues when taken with antacids. If on those, then tell your doc, because the two will interact and make BOTH ineffective. Pregnant moms shouldn't take it. There are better ones for them.
It works against a lot of bacteria:Hemophilus influenzae
, Streptococcus pneumoniae
, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus
, mycobacterium avium, and others. The bolded ones are very common. Staph aureus will often have both respiratory issues plus stomach issues, a double whammy.
However, it also can cause stomach upset and diarhea. If you're sensitive to that, then ask for another antibiotic. Worse, it could actually cause Clostridium dificile to get in higher than normal bacteria counts, and then the cure is worse than the original illness.
Be cautious using this antibiotic. There's some qualifiers there. Learning your body's way of reacting to medications, plus a little knowledge about specific meds, helps you as the patient make an informed decision versus just doing as you're told.
