Re: Is it possible for a woman to get her looks back at age 48?!
After years of family stress and financial uneasiness, how would she go about doing it?

I am 67. beautiful. exercise. eat healthy foods. not extreme though. no alcohol or smoking...which i did both..and stopped. once i stopped, alcohol, cigaretts, my looks came back..it's never too late! take up a hobby and keep your mind sharp! read, read and read. Looks are not important, honestly, what is inside the soul is what makes you beautiful. i had an extremely stressful 30 years also, but i talked myself into being positive. my skin is flawless and my hair is white, green eyes, and i am happy. no one can make you happy, except you! i became an artist, i began to see all the beauty around us..take a look..

Of course you can. I've seen countless times some woman got divorced, or a man for that matter, and then realized that they had to do something if they still wanted frienship, romance, and companionship in their life. The sad thing is that they let themselves go. This contributes to a loss of self-esteem plus a lack of respect from others including the loss of their spouse.

Anyone at any age can improve their looks. It just takes some discipline, good healthy inexpensive food, and time.

Time is the main problem. It took a long amount of time to run yourself down. No wrinkles or extra weight came overnight, did it?

Now stress though is an accelerant. It's like a snowball going down a hill. It's why a lot of people prematurely age. Look at any president or world leader two years after taking office and you'll witness accelerated aging.

As we get older, we have less growth hormone and testosterone. Yes, even women have it, or else they wouldn't have sexual desire. In women it's created by the adrenal glands above your kidneys.

While things like tanning do actually encourage testosterone production, and hence can make people look younger, most people WAY WAY overdo it. That results in prematurely aged skin.

Abdominal fat produces estrogen. As you lose weight, you'll be making less. I'm guessing that you're post-menopausal. While you want some estrogen, too much weight makes losing weight hard. It feeds the fat builder of your body. Moderate weight bearing exercise will reduce fat and then increase the proportion of testosterone.

Too many people do too much aerobic exercise and then get frustrated because they don't gain muscle or lose weight. Do some, but especially women need to lift some weights.

Smoking does this too. Stop smoking if you do that for stress relief.

When doing something that's harming your body, it's best to create very strong negative images to break the cycle. Begin to associate those bad behaviors with pain. Saying, "This is killing me and making me an elderly person. I'm stopping now." is a simple effective way to momentarily stop when feeling weak.

Find something very pleasurable like massage to replace a negative behavior and make yourself feel better. Massage wicks away stress, creates inner calm. Treat yourself if you can to one, or if you can't afford it, trade it with someone. If you do that with a lover, you'll 1) enhance your intimacy, 2) reduce stress 3) get healthier (physically, mentally, spiritually).

You can massage yourself quite easily, but of course it isn't as pleasurable. Still it's something to do before bedtime to help you sleep better.

A lot of people accidentally creative negative feelings when exercising, dieting, or when looking in the mirror. You have to prevent that by doing deliberately positive things when performing those tasks.

A most helpful tip is to use the video camera in your computer to take a picture semi-weekly. Take one from the side, front, and back. Then hide them from anyone who might see. Then over time look at the gradual change so you can positively identify that you are transforming.

We can't witness most change because it's so slooooooow. Doing it this way assure you that, "Yes, I am get stronger. I see the muscles. My face is tighter. There's less under my arms hanging."

Be cheerful when eating. Find some food with less calories that tastes good. Otherwise you'll grumble, feel sorry for yourself, and accidentally binge on junk.

For one meal each week after waiting seven days, eat something tasty but in moderation. One little doughtnut won't kill you. Then you'll feel happy you exercised so hard for it. Better to eat something like a little dark chocolate that's good for your heart.

Don't use soap on your face. Your body produces natural oils. When you use soap there, you strip oils away. If it's dry, use jojoba oil which is a perfect emollient. Many times, dry skin is suffering and makes your appearance look older. You can recover some by doing both things.

Most shampoo is terrible for hair. Wash it less frequently and with milder shampoo and use some jojoba oil to help your hair grow more luxurious and supple and thicken it.

Personally I see a lot of women cut their hair too short. It doesn't make you look younger, it makes you look like all of the older women. As you improve the quality of your hair, then try to curl it some, or style it. Don't waste too much money on this aspect like most women do. Do the inexpensive things first and try to do much of it yourself.

I know very few Playboy bunnies with short hair. While some women like short hair, most guys don't.

Don't give up.

Now, you'll think this is goofy, but I know of two women who changed their makeup by using the powdered kind from minerals. It way improved their appearance. It looks so natural. I'm a guy, and even I noticed a difference.

If you're feeling bad now at your age.. look at this age progression image of Princess Diana at 50, without cosmetic surgery. We all age, this made me feel more at ease with myself.

You need to be happy, confident and beautiful on the inside for it to show on the outside.

If you're looking for the superficial stuff, plastic surgery is that-a-way.

"for the rest of your life" take a recreational tub bath for an hour or so each evening with only a couple drops of good cologne or rose oil or orange blossom essence in the water. This accomplishes de-tox along with rejuvenating hydration in a wonderful way. on nights when not possible, a brief foot soak is a fair substitute to keep the routine active if you know what i mean "it's the thought that counts".

Re: Is it possible for a woman to get her looks back at age 48?!
When we get stressed, and it continues for a long time, it gradually begins to change our mental outlook and often we appear bitter to people.

Have you ever been around someone who's very sweet, endearing, lively, and lifts the mood of everyone else? All people can be that way somewhat. It's just about trying to be cheerful and finding hope even when things seem bleak.

They are like wells of sweet water when we are perpetually thirsty and dry. Then we drink at their well and feel happier and relieved, and then always want to be around them.

When people remain positive, then because we can't seperate the visual senses from the rest of our thinking process or our emotions, then they seem more beautiful. We want to be around them. They attract us.

Maybe you're not feeling beautiful or attracttive, or think that beauty looks one way. It doesn't. While all of us are innundated by advertising images of perpetually young perfect people, most of the images were photoenhanced in some clever way to artifically boost their comeliness.

Stop the insanity.

Now some people give up. They think. I'm 48. I'm not going to try anymore. Well naturally with an attitude like that you're not going to be perceived as attractive.

You still can be beautiful. Gosh I've seen very beautiful aspects in positive people all the time...every day.

Some people are terribly shallow, and if you spend any time trying to please those folks you'll always feel inadequate.

But there's always some people who really care and so connect with them instead. Be genuine and yourself, but always be your personal best. It tends to boost your self-confidence, and so your posture is better, you smile more, you are more careful what you say, etc.

The young beautiful girl that you once were is still in there somewhere. Let her out of the prison so she can play and have joy again.

I agree.

I think this has helped me stay young too.
Drink lots of water and some detox tea of some kind in the tub.
I use coconut oil in the bath water, been doing this for years, kids and grandkids love it too. I even built my home with private tub because we all had hour long hot baths. Funny trying to get the 6 year old grandson out of the tub after an hour as he yells out for more water to drink please.

I think genes have a lot to do with it but....if one wants to improve their looks I would say to have a good diet, eating healthy, stay out of the sun, get to a desired weight and most importantly..love yourself.

If you have confidence and smile at people and try to have a good attitude it works wonders...you'll get that glow and people will be drawn to you.

I agree, I've seen really gorgeous women pile on the make up when they don't need to. I have nothing against using a little make-up, I use a little eyeliner and mascara.

When I was much younger I wouldn't be caught dead throwing the garbage out without full make up on. Now I am older and I could care less...it's very freeing really.

It's not that I don't care to look nice but it's not the end all and be all. I am much more attracted to a man that is self-assured, funny, has a nice personality, etc. then what he looks like.

48 Its beautiful age and if you have had a lot of stress, moisturize your face every night. Eat right. Meditate, have a good outlook on life, laugh a lot and if you can, get yourself some sexy clothes and out of frumpy ones.

Be self assured, exude confidence.

Like yourself. If that sounds shallow, its not. Others will love you once you love yourself.

I speak from experience. Take care of yourself, pamper yourself and you will feel great.
Others will not help seeing a new, vibrant, beautiful attractive woman.
And don't dress trashy, dress modern but not exposed. Sexy comes from within.

Good luck.

Use rose hip oil for your skin, its contains tons of vitamin C which you need. And sun as long as your skin is not dry. And all depending on your skintype you might mix is with a macadamia oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil.

Besides that eat a lot of sprouts like this woman ;)

First, remember this is NOT out of meanness.
Second, get them back from the Incubus that stole them (in a sense). Perhaps better said as, regain your Locus of Control by recognizing and confronting Internal and External Forces which weaken your Individual Life-Force.
Last, the rest you already know, as it is the mundane and average answers likely already provided.
P.S.
You are beautiful.

Young people are all beautiful for the most part without having to do much, this is true. But I am surrounded in my life by classy, healthy, confident older women whom I would never in a million years describe as "mutton". Young people don't have the market cornered on being "sexy" and attractive. Health, wisdom, humor, grace...all of these things make anyone attractive.
