When I put them in, turned on the light switch, they EXPLODED.

If I can't use light bulbs, I guess I'll save on electricity. I have since learned how to make candles.

No dimmer but your right.

I believe it was the ballast clicking on and off for no reason that melted them, if that is true that also means they were costing me a lot more to run then a regular bulb.

Now what I did notice is the newer generation of these things have vent holes, but look at it, it’s still browning slowly.

i am responsible for interior lighting at a major university, and i see lights like this all day. the plastic deteriorates from heat and UV exposure. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Contemporary LED's are better on wattage consumption, but generate more heat due to an integral transformer jammed into a nice tight package you can still screw into existing fixtures.
the solution: LED lighting with proprietary DC low-voltage distribution in line with battery banks and a solar voltaic array.

engineers and architects who still spec all this antiquated technology are to blame.

I use all DC lighting, because of my solar...incandescent bulbs get hot enough to fry an egg on and will explode if you splash them with water while they're hot...also had halogen lights years ago and the kids and I sailing paper airplanes actually set fire to one when it landed on one...if a light gets hot you are wasting energy.

This has happened to me before. Older bulbs in sockets that were meant for maybe a 40-watt incandescent bulb at most ... They are expensive and the mercury is dangerous, but just think ... even if ever paycheck, or every other paycheck, you bought LED bulbs, then your house would be 100% LED in a year. They are quite the investment but I think its worth it!

I've used them for years with no problems. I've had a couple burn out after a year but after checking they were made in China and were ones that I grabbed on sale without looking.
The rest I've used were some GE made in the US (check the package) and I've had some of them in use for about 6 years.

CFL's are complete shit! Get rid of them if you have them, as they produce dirty electricity and a terrible light spectrum. As soon as I switched mine out I started feeling much better.

There is a reason why governments push them so much and it's NOT to save you money!

All of my CFL's do the browning. I have even had a few get hot and smoke. I am about to the go buy all the standard bulbs I can. FUCK CFL's..
