Walking around in 80 lbs. of gear in 120 degree weather and getting into gunfights with insurgents and in general being surrounded by misery and death over a 9 to 15 month period tends to make you grow close to those around you. during the 98% of the time where nothing is happening, (and you're bored to death) you almost revert back to being a 5 year old in a lot of ways. Surrounded by a likeminded group of 5 year old brothers.

Those are marines. Homosexuality in the marine corps is epidemic. There's a woman named Kay Griggs who was married to a Marine colonel and she tells all the inside stories. Her videos are on youtube. The whole corps is run by fags from the top down.

Griggs describes the career path of the average marine in one of her videos. Every time a marine recieves a promiotion he gets hazed. When you graduate boot you have to do some faggy shit like wear underwear on your head and masturbate in front of the whole platoon. As you move up the chain the hazings become more blatantly homosexual until you're eventualy sucking some guys dick or getting banged in the ass. The moment you decide the hazing is too faggy for you, that's where your promotions stop.

The marine corps is even faggier than the navy.

Sanity is like a dry sponge. You put stressors on it it starts twisting. To relieve it from snapping, you try to create as much an entertaining environment for yourself, and other around you, as much as you can. Doing stuff like this is just a way to take your mind off it, and get a laugh out of your likeminded, 5 year old brothers. And sisters. Some women do go "outside the wire" and get in as much danger as any man. Although it is still somewhat rare.

I was in the Army...didn't know of a single homosexual. Sure a lot of guys joke around...haven't you ever worked with guys before? They do gay tests to prove that they are straight. It's a way of joking around! For instance showing you their balls at random (you can also see this in the movie, Waiting...you can read about similar stuff in Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential). You all laugh about it and get grossed out. Pranks. Or gay ass dancing...all in jest.

OP, when you're deployed you're usually pretty busy regardless. if you have a job that takes you outside interacting with the locals, you're usually even more busy. Whenever you're doing stuff like that, you're usually pretty focused on what you need to do, trying to pay attention so you don't miss something that might get you or your friends hurt.

When you have downtime...most guys in the military usually have a girlfriend or wife. And they're allowed to send you mail or (when you can access it) email. They don't go through letters, and they don't go through email. For the most part, they can send you whatever, if it fits in an envelope or attach it in an email.

If we're stationed near where women are, a lot of Army guys tend to go for them. There is a rule of no fraternization, but people break that rule all the time.

If not, you just jack off in private...not in front of anyone else.

For instance, in Iraq it was common to go into the portajohn and jack off in there. Pretty disgusting but whatever. We stayed in trailer type things, and if the roommate was gone on mission, we did it then.

The 'gay test' stuff (I don't even know if that's what it's called, just 'horseplay' I guess) also helps the more introverted guys to open up and take it easy around their fellow men. This is the first I've heard of any widespread thing like this from any american service. One Soldier's account is one Soldier's account. You never know if he was blacklisted from making General, you never really get the whole back story unless you knew him personally, if maybe he was retired early for some reason, a lot of things get subverted when you get high up in government, military or not. Some people might conspire to leave a black eye on their last job if they left with a bad taste in his mouth.

It could all be true. If it is, it happened at a level me and you never operated at. But I'm not gonna assume anything from one diary, from one family.
