Repairing a microwave can be deadly. There is a capacitor in it that can hold a substantial charge. Unless you know how to discharge it, don't take the microwave apart.

Yes, more than likely it is a thermal fuse- but it's not worth your life.

The best way to discharge that huge cap is to put your tongue across the terminals.

Get a screwdriver and pull the cover off. Look around inside and you will probably find a fuse (maybe the old tube glass kind or one of the more modern types like that are found in your car) - go to the auto parts store and get a new one.

Did you open the door while it was under operation? If so, the fuse will often blow. If the door switch is barely making contact, then it can trip as well and interupt power.

Here's a video which explains where to look for the fuse.

Take off the shroud or metal cover after unplugging it. Don't touch any capacitors. That's the main concern as you could get a nasty shock. Put all the screws in a little bowl so you don't lose them.

He demonstrates the door microswitch. The fuse is easy to replace. Hopefully it blew because you mistreated the microwave and something isn't failing. My kids often blew the fuse in the microwave.

The only other thing might be the cord is bad and intermittant. If it's anything else, microwaves are cheap and it's cheaper to get a new one unless you know how to repair them.

The thermal cutout switch can kick out, but it shouldn't happen unless you're really heating something too too long.
