Does anyone know a cheap prepaid cell service? Used to pay $10/yr
I don't use my cell phone very much and was happy with T-mobile's prepaid plan until this year.

For years I used to pay only $10 a year, and it worked out well since minutes never expired. I had over 600 minutes but T-mobile wiped all that and now minutes expire and costs a lot per minute.

I realize times have changed and I probably can't find a plan like that anymore, so I'm wondering if any of you here who don't use your cell phone very much know of any cheap prepaid services?

I don't have/use/need a smartphone. Just basic calling service for a regular cell phone.

Thanks.

Yeah Tracphone is a bit much. I'll check out Boost Mobile. This is the problem with prepaid plans these days, they all expire so quickly needing to refill to maintain the account.

I rarely use the phone but would prefer to have one for emergencies / aaa / things like that. I think because smartphones are so popular prepaid services had to adjust with it.

I googled Obama phone. Seems to be a government benefit, never heard of it. I'm not on welfare nor do I want a phone from Obama.

Just looking to save money.

I speak jive.

What she is saying is that if you are economically challenged you can get a "free" phone, and vote for Barack Obama.

lol

I always wanted to do something like that because of Airplane the movie.

There is this company called Solavei that uses T-Mobile's network, which means that you can keep your same device. They charge $49 per month with unlimited calls, text, and data with no contract, but the beauty of it is that every time you refer 3 people they discount $20 from your monthly bill.
Check out the link for more info:

Re: Does anyone know a cheap prepaid cell service? Used to pay $10/yr
moved to states from germany and i don't understand why they don't have the same type of pre-paid service here in the states. i would buy 1 sim card with 25 euros on it. even when the money ran out i could still be reachable just couldn't make any phone calls but people could still call me and i could still talk to them because the caller is paying for the call. if needed be i would have a telephone card and just use a phone booth caues it was only 20 cent.

now i use net10....i buy the 300 minute card for 30$ which is good for 60 days so it comes out to 15$ a month

Verizon HAD (and I say had because I'm unsure if they still do this or not) a thing where if you put 100 bucks on the phone, the 100 was valid for a year. You didn't need to reup if you went under a hundred. But you basically had a year to use it and it rolls over. My parents have it and have 200ish on each phone since they hardly use them. They were just able to do it again last month so maybe they still offer it? That seemed to be the cheapest deal out there.

What the hell kind of a phone did you have for $10 a year?

2 tin cans and a string, powered by a hamster in a wheel?

Even that would cost more than $10 a year.

I heard Obammy was giving them out for free
..."The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you choose, what you think, and what you do is who you become. Your integrity is your destiny ... it is the light that guides your way."

You saved up 600 minutes by paying $10 a year? How many minutes did you get for $10?

Anyway. I doubt you will be able to find something similar. Better start practicing using smoke signals, Morse code, or train some pigeons.
