WTF !! - ASTEROID Impact With EARTH 02.15.2013 ?? - Is This The End ?? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 31341153 United Kingdom 01/04/2013 11:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | is that is 14.000 miles from earth and between the sats we going get flak Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20217625 It is. A collision with a satellite is the greatest risk from this passage. Search: Kessler Syndrome. Ah, but that's a real world concern, not nearly sensational enough for GLP (by virtue of it being a real concern). it's highly unlikely though. i don't think people on here realise just how big space is. the posts about 'will comet so and so hit asteroid so and so into the moon sending the moon careering into the earth' are always the best ones, I feel! |

Highly unlikely is still better than simply being completely wrong. I love the part of these threads where the "doom hangover" comes after nothing happens and everyone who believed it is left scratching their heads and making up reasons as to why. They never seem to figure it out. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31470561 how do come up with that sum? you don't know the mass so it could be a 500meg or more. 2012 DA14 is a near earth asteroid with an estimated diameter of about 45 meters and an estimated mass of about 130,000 metric tons |

You'd have to ask someone more informed than me but it would depend on where it hit I would say :) True, land or sea + proximity "They cannot see what's-up if They are looking down." (TastyThoughts) "Something is smelly! Something is smelly, like an old barnacle encrusted shoe washing ashore in the middle of summer." (TastyThoughts) "Yes happy Earth day. Now go tell the wicked to stop damaging the Human Species therefore/and the Earth; For, they are discombobulating the entire Universe and upsetting the Most High God." (TastyThoughts) |

Earth's gravity will affect its orbit, but it will not "pull it in." Dr Astro, that was very nicely said and explained. Live and let live, for we all have our own lessons to learn. |

Well if the Earth does have a slight affect on it, could it possible pull it a little closer so the next pass is even closer to us? |

And if your answer is "It's from the government/media so you can't trust anything they say!!!", then why do you believe them when they say there's even an asteroid in the first place? |
