From the FBI's website at www.fbi.gov. Violent Crimes staistics for 2011 Table 20 combined with 2011 Population estimates.

Your chances of being a murder victim are as follows:

Overall 1 in 24,500

Murder by Firearm 1 in 35,744
Murder by Handgun 1 in 49,323
Murder by Rifle 1 in 949,812
Murder by Shotgun 1 in 861,767
Murder by Non-Firearm 1 in 75,175

For whatever reason the state of Alabama is ommitted from the FBI stats, but these are the numbers based upon their data combined with 2011 population estimates from the census bureau.

It would seem that rifles and shotguns are the least of the problem, but you can do your own research if you are objective enough to bother.

Re: Vanity Fair: Second Amendment "Must Be Removed from the Constitution"
The only reason the 2nd Amendment hasn't been repealed is because NRA supports the gun manufacturers and the NRA receives mega dollars to lobby on behalf of the gun manufacturers. Sure rural people support the 2A because they hunt, but they don't have the numbers to block a repeal.\

If there wasn't big dollars in maintaining 2A, it would have been repealed eons ago, given how much it costs society to maintain it.

2A is an anachronism from another time. US jurists are afraid to declare it unconstitutional because something might happen to them for making that decision. Politiciana fear a backlash from the 2A supporters, and let's not forget the lobbiests. The only way it can be repealed is if the citizens of the US force the issue.

Sure, people will harp on the old rag that suddenly only the criminals will have guns. But really, what it will mean is that people will have to justify weapon ownership. Perhaps it will also mean that people will have to prove that they can secure their weapons and pay for that privilige by purchasing insurnce. Unsecured weapons are the suppliers of criminals. People who don't want to recognize that are either deluded or just irresponsible.

It is in the constitution and therefore it is a right to own weapons in America. It's gotten ludicrous however. Gun shops selling out of assault rifles. Reason has been all but lost and I am saddened. Am not against guns. Not a hunter but understand that many are, some people target practice etc. but why assault rifles? Who are the many that they wish to mow down? It's hard to wrap my head around.

With reference to stolen weapons being the major source of a criminal's ability to have them, if you do any remedial research into the source of illegal weapons, you will find that the vast majority are smuggled into the US from Guatamala and El Salvador and other Central American sources along with drug shipments. This "trade" is the second largest revenue source for the drug cartels worldwide.

Repealing the 2nd Amendment does not alter the inalienable right to self defence. The 2nd Amendment does not "Establish" the right, it "Guarantees" the right.

In repealing the 2nd Amendment, they would be saying that "the US Government will no longer guarantee the right of self defense." However, that right is not the government's to give as it is a fundamental human right.

Re: Vanity Fair: Second Amendment "Must Be Removed from the Constitution"
There is nothing that will be gained from new gun control legislation, accept $200 per firearm going to the government. Handguns are already fully registered and remain the largest contributor to gun violence. Registering rifles and shotguns will do nothing to reduce gun violence. If Nancy Lanza's weapons had been registered, how would it have altered the events at Sandy Hook? The entire premise is ridiculous and it's communicated purpose is a lie.

Guns cannot be dis-invented. There are 10's of billions worldwide. They have been with us in some form since the 1500's.

As for the Assault Rifle issue, most people have no idea what an assault rifle is or why it requires a 30 round magazine. FYI, an AR15 is not considered a kill weapon, it is considered a take-down weapon. Talk to most law enforcement personnel with experience using these weapons and you will find documented cases of assailants taking as many as 15 hits from these weapons and still walking to the ambulance under their own power. In battle, they are designed to wound the aggressor to stop the attack. The idea is to keep firing until the attack stops. Obviously, a well placed shot will render you lifeless, but why do you think all those people had multiple wounds? The AR15 is an excellent home defense weapon.

I'll agree to a point.

The MK318 used by the Marines really improved "killability" as well as the MK262 used by snipers and special forces.

The MK262 can be made by you. It requires 24.7 grns of Ramshot TAC under a 77 grn Sierra MatchKing BTHP. Mod 0 is no Cannelure and Mod 1 is with Cannelure.

Confirmed kill at 700+ yards with it already.

The M855A1 is supposed to be better as well..I just don't think it is.

Now if you want an AR platform that is going to really be used for killing, I'd recommend looking at the 6.8 SPC II

Now that is impressive as well as the 6.5 Grendal.

6.8 is more popular and using standard .270 bullets it's better to reload for. And is effective to 800 yards unlike these bastardized M4's shooting M855 that are good to about 70 yards.

it is a persons right to chose the level of protection that suits them just as you have the right to. if a bad guy can get a fully automatic AK then an AR is sometimes necessary to quell such violent threat. i.e business owners during the LA riots, North hollywood shootout, etc..b

evil people get evil tools to use for evil actions; gun laws get tighter-responsible citizens continue to arm themselves-gun violence statistics continue to trend down (in the USA [FBI statistics]). They have even compensated for this trend by adding suicide and accidents into 'gun violence' and still does not support an increasingly restrictive agenda. Feinstein is the leader for limiting gun ownership yet she has a CCW... what does that tell you?

Can someone with an ounce of intelligence explain to me WHY in the world it is that when a person or family takes a position and they happen to be Jewish, Then supposedly all the JEWS are plotting against us?

When Obama and Biden vow to introduce stricter Gun laws (he says hes Christian!)
So then aren't ALL the Christians against us???

And when a Few Muslims decide to Blow themselves up are ALL muslims Suicide bombers and If maybe they are ALL Potential Suicide bombers then doesn't it make Good sense to KILL ALL MUSLIMS just because of their "potential"???? so why aren't we??

Two points I'm making.. Even if Netanyahu himself says America should give up their Guns, in no way does that mean that ALL JEWS think we should give up our guns!!!!!!!!!

One man or a hundred and their opinion in no way, IN NO WAY! are they the Voice of MY opinion!!! You get that???

So stop trying to stereotype everything!!! It has and will lead to Genocide and it may be YOU that gets a 16 penny nail to the head this time!
Idiots!
