In looking at the released images I am coming to the conclusion that Curiosity has landed in the middle of a gold field. Many of the rocks have gold veins and exposed gold nuggets.

It is the only mineral I can think of that has the same reflective properties and is unaffected by millions of years of exposure.

Its not a flower.

"Alerted to the mystery feature, MSNBC's Alan Boyle assumed it was just another piece of litter accidentally dropped from the rover. However, this isn't the case. On putting the question to NASA spokesman Guy Webster, it appears initial analysis has confirmed it is part of the rock and not something dropped on top."

It doesn't say how big it is.
I bet you it is measured in millimeters.
I think it's just a small crystalline stone of some kind.

Looks like a quartz-like mineral, which could be an indicator of acidic igneous rocks and volcanic activity on Mars

I clicked on the pic and zoomed in the computer 400%, to me it looks like a small crystal of some kind.

Rilly. Perhaps something molten landed there and 'blossomed' from internal expansion then cooled.

This is such an expensive examination of the slightest turd ever recorded.

There can't be martian animals if there are no plants.

Go for a walk in any rocky area in summer, you too can share in the wonder of flowers growing out of seemingly out of sheer rock.
