Ever notice with these pictures that they allow us to see are slightly off focus, blurry or shadowed ? You are all being conned like a bunch of morans.

Look at this photo and zoom in [link to s3.amazonaws.com (secure)]

Re: NASA’s Curiosity rover finds ‘flower’ on surface of Mars
In looking at the released images I am coming to the conclusion that Curiosity has landed in the middle of a gold field. Many of the rocks have gold veins and exposed gold nuggets.

It is the only mineral I can think of that has the same reflective properties and is unaffected by millions of years of exposure.

Original Article

[link to news.discovery.com]

Its not a flower.

"Alerted to the mystery feature, MSNBC's Alan Boyle assumed it was just another piece of litter accidentally dropped from the rover. However, this isn't the case. On putting the question to NASA spokesman Guy Webster, it appears initial analysis has confirmed it is part of the rock and not something dropped on top."

"So what could it be? The high-resolution MAHLI camera is intended to snap close-up observations of Mars surface features -- acting like hand lens magnifiers used by geologists in the field. Therefore, the object -- that, as noted by Boyle, is shaped like a tiny 'flower' -- is pretty small."

"wants this to be evidence of some kind of Mars fossil, but in all likelihood, it's a concentration of minerals embedded in the rock. The former may sound more exciting, but the latter is the most likely explanation."

"The human brain often attaches significance to random shapes, concluding that if it looks like a flower on Mars, then it must be something biological. This is a psychological phenomenon known as "pareidolia" -- and Mars is a very fertile environment for fooling our brains with random shapes."

Looks awful small.
It doesn't say how big it is.
I bet you it is measured in millimeters.
I think it's just a small crystalline stone of some kind.

Curiosity, solved the mystery of the flower on Mars (Cartoon)

There is a flower on Mars? The enigma in the picture of Curiosity

And 'the new mystery, among others, the Red Planet, which revived every time the suggestive hypothesis that there was life on Mars. It looks like a little white flower fossilized and was photographed by NASA rover Curiosity on Mars rocks at the end of December. Naturally, scientists are still far from considering evidence for the existence of life.
The strange object, the composition of which still do not have special, does not seem to be an element taken from the outside (like the piece of plastic fell by the same Curiosity and photographed in October) but, according to Guy Webster, a spokesman for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, seems to be stuck in a rock and then 'native'.

How does it look like a flower.

It's obviously a rock.

Non story.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31483017

Rilly. Perhaps something molten landed there and 'blossomed' from internal expansion then cooled.

This is such an expensive examination of the slightest turd ever recorded.

The article states its a piece of plastic that fell off?
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

Re: NASA’s Curiosity rover finds ‘flower’ on surface of Mars
until there is a live stream of mars, like they have, given to the public, they are not to be trusted.

I'm still trying to figure out how they shot a piece of metal 240k miles away to the moon AND BACK with a computer as powerful as an Ipod.

When I figure out that lunacy I'll make my way to the mars bullshit.

something tells me i'll be looking for truth for a while..
