Think Ciudad Juarez with its maquiladoras (factories.) Also, I watched this a couple nights ago on PBS, and it was very interesting: |

They are Americans of Mexican descent. And the father opened a small business there. Also I have gone to TJ to dentists and they were great and inexpensive! I was told when I was there by one dentist that one General practitioner doctor in TJ a female was so great that she had a 2 month waiting list! I have met a doctor that owns a Youth Clinic in Baja Ca. Dr.Carlos Soria educated in Europe. He seems very experienced. He does just about everything to improve a person's looks. Even weight loss. I'm going to tie up a few loose ends here, get a passport and purchase a one way ticket to Cancun.. Quoting: Slick Vick I know nobody there, but its beautiful. I am a graphic/web designer so I will bring my laptop and hopefully find some work from the resorts, OR, at least work remotely for U.S. clients I have so i can make american money which goes much farther there..Eventually I would like to find a full-time job with a design or marketing company who will allow me to work remotely.. Making USD 30k a year while living in Mexico would be like making 90k in the USA.. I am sick of the stuck up fucks that occupy this country, sick of the non-existant american dream, sick of the taxes, the politicians and the fake ass people.. People do this everyday and everyone I have heard of is glad they made the move..Seriously, FUCK THE USA and everything it stands for.. Come to 'straya. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31481878 You do not have to pay US taxes if you live outside the country for more than 2 yrs. I got my eye on Lake Chapala, Ajijic; myself. Spent the last 2 summers there. Incorrect: [link to money.cnn.com] And even if you don't owe taxes, you still have to report to the govt -- forever -- under threat of large fines and imprisonment. It's onerous and expensive and why renunciation of citizenship is sharply increasing. Even if you've lived in another country for 50 years, you are still obligated to report to the US govt -- and your your adult children have to as well, even if they were born in your adopted country and never intend to move to the US. They are Americans, with American obligations, if their parents were American when they were born. What the article doesn't cover is that the regulations have become so burdensome foreign banks are starting to refuse business from Americans because it's too expensive to service them. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 47928685 United States 10/05/2013 04:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I plan to retire next Spring. I have no intention of staying in the US. I have spent the last 9 months or so considering which county to move to. Health care, long term VISA, language, weather, crime, cost of living, transportation... so many things to consider. Currently my at number one on my list is Malaysia. Excellent health care that is cheap. English widely spoken. Malaysia My Second Home VISA. Panama and Belize are backup plans. But I would prefer the more exotic Asia. And Malaysia would place it at my doorstep. Mexico was never high on the list. Ecuador, Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic were higher. My wife wants Europe. So have looked at Italy, Spain and some Greek islands. Get International Health Insurance. Do not buy property, always rent. From what I understand if you live outside the US for 330 days a year and possess a residency VISA you do not owe federal taxes, but still have to file. The plan is to travel around until I find the right place. In the military I spent 13 months in Korea and loved it. I have also traveled to Germany and France. |

Slick Vick (OP) User ID: 36000341 United States 11/17/2013 02:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm out of here, next Saturday.. I bought a one-way ticket this morning. Today I finalized living arrangements to rent a whole upstairs section (2 bed, 1 bath) of a beautiful 2,500Sq foot home for $675 a month. I have my own private entry, a deck and another balcony overlooking a tropical garden for $675 a month, furnished, with all utilities including cable and Wi-fi included. Located in a secure newer community that's a 5 minute bike ride or 20 minute walk to the beach. I don't see how I could be unhappy in that situation. It's beautiful there. My money will go twice as far. And when my Visa is up every 6 months, I'll spend $400 on roundtrip airfare to come back to the US and visit family for a few weeks before heading back down to Mexico. I'm now making the same working 20 hours a week from home as I was when I was spending 40 hours in the office. Life in Mexico should be very nice.. |
