is there some kind of conspiracy theory behind this?

Charles Darwin
Beethoven
Albert Einstein
Nikola Tesla

that is really weird that they all had OCD... those are some of the smartest/talented people that have lived.. and they all had it... does having OCD give you the potential to make you really smart or something lol???

It can have the potential to make one more detail oriented.

Charles Darwin
Beethoven
Albert Einstein
Nikola Tesla

One common thing about these men is that they obsessed over their subject, analyzed it from every possible angle - they carefully noted every possible detail, which in these subjects was a good thing.

I would have to agree with the "detail oriented" comment--perhaps the person's "rituals" in association with OCD behavior have some bearing, or compulsions extend to working out certain problems, mentally, until resolution. (?)

Or, maybe it's just coincidence. Some of them would have to have been diagnosed posthumously, I'm guessing. Not sure offhand when OCD was "discovered," or became a diagnosis.

As someone with SEVERE OCD, I can definitely see these men having OCD. I would have to research about Nikola, but the others I can definitely attest to being OCD. I wouldn't say that automatically made them smart, but it helped with their accomplishments. You see when you're OCD, YOU CAN'T LET A DAMN THING GO. EVER. You don't get a math problem? You will work on it for hours, look up different ways, pull out every old textbook, before ever phoning a friend, because you are determined to figure it out. Often, it is the little details by the way that we get stuck on. Personally, I often get hung up on the smallest of details. However, it is for that reason that I am in line to be valedictorian, even though the odds are against me since the other girl has a photographic memory (and is a natural genius, I'm not) and I don't. OCD pushes me to study beyond all reasonable boundaries... stay up all hours, running on five hour energy and monster, just for a few quizzes and tests. Hopefully though, this will make me an excellent neurosurgeon in the future. Anyways, sorry I got off topic, I will rant on this for hours. It is also important to note that there are many different types of OCD. Another aspect is that OCD can present itself more strongly in some areas of your life than in others. When I was little I always kept my room spotless. Now it's a pigsty, rant but I don't care as long as I'm getting great grades. rantrantrant
