He screwed the very poorest wage earners, because then they will rightly decide it's cheaper to not work.

The earners making the 10% bracket topped out at about $8,700 per year, if memory serves.

They will pay 50% more this time around.

They paid less in income tax than others paid in capital gains taxes ( they were 15%, I do not know what they are now).

These people have been royally screwed.

10% was the Bush tax cut that was recently extended.
Without the extension, the tax rate would have been 15%.

I take it you are saying the 10% bracket still exists.

if so, I know some people who will be quite relieved!!

It would be a travesty to raise taxes so much on this group, whatever the means.

However, the payroll tax reduction was NOT extended,
so those in the 10% tax range will still pay more in
FICA tax in 2013.
