Intentionally spitting on another person qualifies as “simple assault” if the spit does not contain pathogens. If it does contain pathogens, other charges are possible.
A consideration that has not been brought up is, is Upset Grandma son's GF possibly using IV drugs and could you have been exposed to anything?

Doctors say spitting can be dangerous, especially if the person is carrying a transmittable disease.

"You never want to be spit on, even by somebody's who's healthy," said John Potter, DMD of FLOSS Dentistry. "But if someone is carrying a transmissible disease, of course it's going to raise a flag. The big problems would be hepatitis -- hepatitis B, hepatitis C."

When a suspect spits on an officer, they can be charged with assault, aggravated assault or even attempted capital murder

Your son's girlfriend, who is the mother of the grandson,
is upset.

I bet she is.
Your problem here, is your son.
He got a girl pregnant, and did he pay for the medical
and child support?
Is he paying?
Did he offer to marry her?

Unless your son marries the girlfriend, you have no
legal rights at all in the situation, and he may not
have either depending on what state you live in.

You sound like a somewhat less than well educated
manipulator to me, as a gramma.

You've raised an irresponsible son.

The son of this woman you are defaming on GLP is
probably better off without you contributing to the
irresponsibility of her son.

Where is your son's father? Lots of information not
supplied here. And no way should you be 'buddies'
with this small child your son is responsible for.
That makes you as irresponsible as your son.

People like you make my head hurt.

The child's well being should be the #1 priority here... not whether the father or mother are married. The kid should come FIRST! He should NOT be witnessing his mother's violent outbursts! He has to be protected from her. Thank goodness he has a grandma who loves and cares about him.

Re: My sons girlfriend spit in my face tonight
I've been dealing with my grandsons mom for 7 years - on and off outbursts of anger. Tonight was the worst. I try to stay out of their business but stepped in tonight because my 4 year grandson was in the middle of their argument (she got mad and broke a flatscreen TV) My son was trying to leave with my GS and after they left she flipped out on me accusing me of letting him leave with my son (it was dads visitation day) She kicked my jeep, mad, busted my light and then spit in my face. I am beyond upset. My neighbor called the police because she was screaming outside. The ambulance came for me because they were afraid I was having a heart attack. My EKG was all over the place. I denied going to the hospital because I was afraid if she came back and my 4 year GS would be in the middle again and get hurt. I'm torn of what to do - I've tried my best and can't do this anymore. My GS and I are best buddies. It broke my heart he was hiding in my room huddled in a corner scared when they were arguing.

What to do? What to do?

Thank you. My son and our family have been there during the pregnancy and in the GS's life for 4 years. My son is very close to his boy and spends lots of time with him. Him providing for his son has never been an issue. Our GS loves his Grandma and his "papa" (my husband) and loves to spend time with us. My son is living here with us right now. He is between jobs (works in Hazmat)

I was the one who brought my GS and his mom home from the hospital to their apt when she was released from the hospital 4 years ago. My son was diagnosed with BiPolar as a teen and is on medication. It has not been easy. I think mom has BiPolar too, because of her mood swings, except she is not diagnosed or on meds (maybe on drugs though, I don't know?)

Surprisingly, through all this, GS is a pretty well adjusted loving and social little boy BUT I know this is affecting him because of some of the things has has said to me.

My sons dad was an alcoholic, I left him and we divorced when my son was 5 months old. His dad died about 10 years ago. My sons have been raised my 2nd husband, we've been married 23 years.

No the restraining order was granted and her stuff is still here. We go to court next Thursday.

I guess she hired a lawyer to fight the restraining order. He tried to make me feel bad explaining how a restraining order will affect her getting a job, yada, yada. Then he said if I take it court he "will take me to the carpet". The when I said I have nothing to hide and nothing to fear, and said I won't be treated this way by her, he said "you know you are lying" then hung up on me.

Trying to bully me into dropping it. Wow.

Just scare tactics. Stick to your guns. I assume your son was present as a witness when the TV was smashed?

Take photos of your broken light too. - Or at least have your mechanic state your light was broken due to blunt force, without other damage to your car in that area.

I think she has lied and put on an act for her lawyer.

I take it GS is with you and your son at the moment?

Report him to the Bar Assn., by being abusive-HE is violating the restraining order.

My cousin works investigating such claims, so feel free give him (and his fellows in your state) some work.

Call or email the bar assn. in your state and let them know this guy is threatening/insulting you.

This is honestly what's going on with young mothers these days. They want to grow up to fast, weren't taught to respect elders nor themselves! If she can got into a fit of rage like that its best you get a restraining order, file a report and keep her from your grandson. It only takes once for that baby to be under a TV or behind her and running down the road while she's having a mood swing. ... I'm just being honest! I hope you had witnesses! But seriously those young mothers these days are still kids themselves inside

If they go to jail will you be able to take in the GS for a while or will he go to foster care? I hope he can stay with you and not have to go through that. Why did the girlfriend get so mad to start with? Was there a reason the dad wasn't suppose to take him somewhere? I was just curious what set the whole thing off?

CALL the local CPS/DHS and REPORT her. She cannot handle being a mother. FILE A REPORT while this is still fresh, do not wait a week or two. If the child is removed they will look for family first to place the child with. In Oregon it is a crime to assault anyone in front of a child, not sure where you are but it may be grounds for you or your son to get custody. You would be doing a disservice to yourself and your GS to allow this to continue for another moment. Think of what she must do in front of the child when you aren't around if she is this uncensored in front of you. She needs assault charges and you need to press charges. It is NOT okay. Maybe you're used to it after 7 years but take a step back and look at it with fresh eyes...she is SO UNSTABLE, seriously. Have your son help you file the report. Your GS is suffering bigtime, put an end to it and help your son get full custody. TAKE ACTION. NOW. Start looking up CPS, etc and make phone calls, leave messages. I wish I could help more, I'm so sorry.

Or hidden tape recorders. I woudn't tell her about any of them and police don't really like it when you obvious tape stuff. Even of them and especially of them, but of anyone they will lie and tell you you can't record someone in that situation, usually what they say isn't true but best to do it in a way that the person being recorded doesn't know they are being recorded. Otherwise it could be claimed that the recording it self caused them to act agitated.

You can also have a standby cop for times she has to be around (or used to be able to before budget cuts in most places). I forget what that is called. But you set it up ahead and wait for the police to get there before any contact with the person.
