Turkey announced oil exploration with their new seismic vessel in East Med, close to Kastelorizo and inside Cypriot EEZ in the Blocks 1, 4,5,6,7 and 12 where Noble Energy is already drilling. It was estimated that oil exploration in Med would take place in May, but could happen sooner according to Turkish Energy minister.

Deputy Assistant Secretary in the State Department Erick Rubin told Syriza leader Tsipras, that an unilateral action on EEZ by Greece will cause a military crisis with Turkey. Washington's advice to Greece is "drill, if you have to, but no maps" and that drilling should be focused in regions not too close to Turkey like Crete for example. Greek govt is weighing the pros and the cons of every potential move.

According to Turkish press, a Turkish tycoon has bought a Greek islet. I haven't been able to confirm this with any Greek sources yet, but lots of noise has been made the last month on the Greek press about a website selling private islands worldwide including islets/islands in Greek territory and that something needs to be done about it to prevent this. Surprisingly, Greek govt acted fast and submitted an amendment that would only allow investors to lease rather than buy islands and would require various ministries and the heads of the armed forces to approve the transaction.

Another show of how politically polarized is the Greek society these days, Golden Dawn organized a march past the U.S. Embassy in Athens on Feb. 2 to commemorate the 1996 Imia dispute that caused a crisis between Greece and Turkey. A GD deputy promised that they will bear the Greek flag on Imia islets once again. On the other hand, the same day a Syriza deputy, Theothoridis, stated that Imia islets are not Greek but Turkish. He was deposed from the party because Syriza is trying to move more to the center-left lately than it's traditional radical far-left policies, this is not the first time Theothoridis makes similar statements, about 2 months ago he pretty much stated that Macedonia is not Greek too.

Support of 'terrorism' accusations against Greece and Germany this time continue by the Turkish press after the US embassy suicide bombing incident. 2 weeks before the US embassy attack Turkish press involved Greece with DHKP-C based on a USB stick that has the word "Greece" for passcode.
[link to translate.google.gr]
[link to translate.google.gr]

Both Greece and Germany condemned the accusations.

[link to www.hurriyetdailynews.com]

Despite the condemnations, Erdogan went as far as stating that terrorism will definitely return back to Eu like a boomerang.

Ankara upping the ante, Samaras to be given file with details of ‘PKK training camps in Greece,’ report says
[link to www.ekathimerini.com]

Various spy scandals continue to implicate Greece and raise questions about how much Turkey, US and NATO allies security has been compromised.

...There are many documents that involved Greece. For example, the warplanes were supposed to patrol above the Aegean Sea as part of routine preparations against the possibility of an unexpected war with Greece but the gang spoiled the military’s plans by sending the planes’ itinerary to the Greek authorities. The indictment said the itinerary information was sent to the Greek authorities within seven minutes of the Turkish military authorities making their decision on which itinerary the warplanes would use. Metin Kubilay Kaşlı was identified as the supplier of this information.

Another damaging leak was provided by Ahmet Gökçül, who had disclosed the radar coverage of Turkish airspace by fixed and mobile radar units. It also listed the potential coverage from the Airborne Warning and Control System that Turkey will be acquiring soon. The fact that documents included a map with white areas indicating blind spots and gaps in radar coverage should be damaging to Turkey’s national security. The note says this map was forwarded via Cem Eriş to a colonel who is the director of operations at the Greek Larissa Air Force Base.

A cache of documents provided by Cem Uyguner reveals highly classified information on contingency planning for the 192nd squadron units for the Milas-Bodrum Airport, an international airport in Turkey close to the Greek islands. It discloses protocols, personnel lists, the number of fighter jets, their duty rosters, and landing/parking zones during wartime. The gang describes the leak as highly valuable. Another suspect named Fatih Şengül supplied a copy of a classified report on the Greek military’s capabilities apparently prepared by a Turkish military attaché in Athens. The gang asks its contacts to link up with the Greek military attaché in Ankara to sell this report to Greece. It says Turkish intelligence operatives Tunç Günal, Uğur Gökşen and Özgür Acar, who had established contact with the Greek military attaché before, can be utilized again....

I watch Erdogan since he first got elected, he's a very good politician for Turkey and has done many good things there, this is undeniable. I think the megalomaniac rhetoric and thus the problems in the region started in 2009 when Davutoglu and his foreign policy got in office, who i suspect is far more connected with the Gullenists than Erdogan himself.

Already split on many key foreign policy issues, Turkey and the United States have found themselves embroiled in new tension after the U.S. envoy received a dressing down from Turkish officials yesterday in the wake of critical comments from the ambassador. The criticisms directed toward Ambassador Francis Ricciardone came in the wake of senior American officials’ reactions to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statements on Israel, as well as their criticisms on the undemocratic nature of the Turkish judicial system.

They are supposedly trying to get in the EU, but i'm not convinced that they really want to or that this will ever happen, big corporations based in Turkey and MSM are certainly pushing for this direction, but they're very far at the moment, they've only completed one of the 35 chapters needed for entry, and many chapters require complete reform regarding liberties and human rights, but most importantly EU requires the end of the Cyprus occupation and the recognition of Armenian genocide too, so can't see any of these happening any time soon.

Yep, they're trying but they want to do so in their own terms as it seems, can't see the EU turning a blind eye on all these just for Turkey's rising economy to be a part too, maybe some kind of a trading union compromise could be made, but complete EU ascension is as far as it ever was.

The oil in the Aegean is a very old story, in 1976 both countries agreed with US as a referee that no one will exploit them and 2-3 military crises have taken place since then mainly for this reason. Since 1995 Turkish parliament officially declared that unilateral action by Greece would constitute a casus belli, the withdrawal of the casus belli against Greece has been included in the basic criteria for Turkey's EU ascension too btw.

Barry Chamish says plainly that the Sabbateans moved to Turkey.

Notice they were essentially neutral to Shicklegruber-Hitler, they wouldn't allow him access to the Caucuses and Grozny. Instead they forced his armies to go through the Russian eastern provinc meatgrinder, eliminating that army entirely.

They created Shicklegruber-Hitler like a horse and directed him where they wanted him to go, he tried to get access through Turkey but the gate was closed to him, forcing him to send his army into hell, and utterly destroy them.

But in the end, Hitler and Napoleon were Jesuit tools and they must destroy their armies against Russia as they both did. History is a set up.

Drilling for oil in the Aegean may help ease Greece’s debt crisis. Greece could reap more than €300 billion (more than $430 billion) from oil and natural gas reserves in its Aegean waters — six times what it is projected to receive through the sale of some of its publicly owned properties, as has been suggested in response to the government’s debt crisis. Sure, Romania will send it's Mig-21s from 1959 to help Greece, half of them will probably crash in Bulgaria and won't make it there and the other half will get shot down in the first few minutes of a dog fight by Turkish F16s !

Out of all the countries in the region only Israel could hold off the Turks, but not for long, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia have no chance of influencing an eventual conflict between Greece and Turkey and Russia might not be so keen to help Greece !

1.the turks cant go to war.. their army has no command at the moment. the muslim bortherhood govermant arrested all the millitary commanders and an army without a good command cant win wars.
2.if the turks go to war with greece then israel and cyprus will most likely be involved since the turks keep threatning those countries to.
3.the turks are slowing losing more and more freedoms so the govermant is trying to divert attention to security, thats why all those threats toward syria/israel/greece/cyprus are coming but the wont act on them. just look at 2010 their pm said if israel stops the marmara he will send the turkish fleet to liberate gaza and 2013 nothing happened and when israel started drilling for gas he said again he will send the fleet to take our gas deposits and again nothing happened... just a sheep in lions clothing.
just saw a ridicules new law that was just signed that basicly says that anyone who posts negative information about the economy will be send to 5years in jail i mean turks cant even anything bad about their economy what kind of democracy is that.

The Turkish govt is going really out of hand regarding liberties and freedoms lately, but after jailing the "deep state" officials Erdogan has no opponent anymore, he can do whatever he wants without asking no one. All these things are happening to provoke Turks in to a conflict so TPTB can dismember Turkey into pieces, it's an obvious trap and at some point i do think that they will react against either Syria, Cyprus, Greece, etc, they practically have bad relations with all of their neighboring countries despite the Davutoglu BS "zero-problems" failed policy, even Turks have criticized his policy a lot lately. Add the Kurds into the equation, peace/ceasefire negotiations with Ocalan the last month which seem to be going well according to the press.

In real terms it is about $12USD.

Looking at any political map it would seem that Syria and Lebanon would be the big winners in anything found offshore.

Exclusive: Turkey to Iran Gold Trade Wiped Out by New U.S. Sanction
February 15, 2013 at 7:27 AM ET

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Tighter U.S. sanctions are killing off Turkey's gold-for-gas trade with Iran and have stopped state-owned lender Halkbank from processing other nations' energy payments to the OPEC oil producer, bankers said on Friday.

[...]

Turkey, Iran's biggest natural gas customer, has been paying Iran for its imports with Turkish lira, because sanctions prevent it from paying in dollars or euros.

Iranians then use those lira, held in Halkbank accounts, to buy gold in Turkey, and couriers carry bullion worth millions of dollars in hand luggage to Dubai, where it can be sold for foreign currency or shipped to Iran.

Halkbank had also been processing a portion of India's payments for Iranian oil.

A provision of U.S. sanctions, made law last summer and implemented from February 6, effectively tightens control on sales of precious metals to Iran and prevents Halkbank from processing oil payments by other countries back to Tehran, bankers said.

"Halkbank can only accept payments for Turkish oil and gas purchases and Iran is only allowed to buy food, medicine and industrial products with that money," one senior Turkish banker told [this news service].

"The gas for gold trade is very difficult after the second round of sanctions. Iranians cannot just withdraw the cash and buy whatever they want. They have to prove what they are buying ... so gold exports will definitely fall," he said.

History of Turkey 1933 - 1963:

[...]

Halkbank was incorporated in 1933 under the Statute 2284 concerning Halkbank and People’s Funds, with the intention of transferring resources under favorable conditions to tradesmen, artisans and small business owners and triggering capital accumulation; for both a long-lasting economic development and for preserving social equilibrium. The bank began offering services in 1938.

The following quotes of the great leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, had a guiding role in establishing HalkBank and, as always, directed us in our efforts:

“It is necessary to establish an association that will provide small traders and large industrialists with the loans that they’re in need of, easily and at discount; and it’s also necessary to try and attempt to depreciate loans under normal conditions,” and “You, artisans, when the day comes that I witness great factories being built in place of your small shops, I’ll be elated to the highest degree.”

Cyprus, ‘A Money Laundering Machine For Russian criminals’ – Amounts, Flows, and Mechanics
Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 5:32PM

Russia’s booming underground economy and “endemic corruption” with its dizzying flows of illicit money, fed largely by oil and gas, is at the core of an 84-page report by Global Financial Integrity (GFI). The non-profit in Washington, D.C. is advising the Russian government on how to tackle this problem. But buried deep inside is a gem: the amounts and flows of Russian “black money” into and out of Cyprus.

Cyprus is broke. Its banks carry on their books €152 billion in decomposing assets, about 8.5 times the country’s GDP of €17.8 billion. Of these “assets,” €23 billion are nonperforming—130% of GDP! The banks also sit on €26 billion in Russian “black money,” according to a “secret” report by the German version of the CIA, the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), leaked last November [here is my story on the leaked report... The Bailout Of Russian “Black Money” In Cyprus].

Now Cyprus needs a bailout of €17.5 billion—100% of GDP—of which €12 billion would go to the putrid banks. It’s the first Eurozone bailout that is so unpalatable that the German parliament might actually refuse to nod it through, which would scuttle it.

All of the oil and natural gas is in the Ionian Sea and below Crete, so there isn't actually anything to be bothered with the Turks. There is no obstacle in exploiting these oil/gas sources other than they must estimate their sizes. Until now they estimate it in some trillion of euros worth only for the one under Crete, so this is not bad at all.

Greece is screwed if they go to war with Turkey.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31508826

Could very well be. FYI Greece is not governed by Greeks the last 3 years, this is international criminal banking cartel, EU and IMF war-mongering that want to push the 2 countries in to a conflict after they sold to both of the countries billions and billions worth of weapons. Parallels with the 1967 CIA imposed military coup that led to Cyprus invasion are obvious for me.

they are both in NATO. unless the treaty is broken, which seems unlikely without some sort of larger war that they get sucked into, then they will have to compromise on who gets the islands. looks like greece is taking advantage of the syria situation.
