Understand that Greece currently has no counter against the Turkish developed SOM and not even your most advanced AA asset the Russian S-300PMU1 is effective against it, the reality is that your entire AA network is vulnerable. The real sad thing is that there is no plan in the works to acquire or develop something to counter the SOM (It entered service in 2012).

Your politicians continue to lie to the Greek people neglecting your nation's security and preventing any chance of the local Greek defense industries from ever becoming self sufficient since your politicos are in league with the Franco-German bribery club, the tragic thing is Greece is fast becoming a nation with an obsolete military, a true paper tiger when compared to Greece's regional rivals.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23227784

SOM is a great missile no doubt about that, but don't over-glorify things, it's something you guys always do with your toys, we have for years similar if not better capabilities with Scalp and Exocet, i'd take the Scalp+Exocet combination over SOM any day of the week but glad you finally joined the cruise club too. Generally speaking we have a quality advantage on the missile dept because we have air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles that you don't currently have. Obviously we have a massive advantage on air-defense too, yours is non-existent, you have none on the long-range dept and Greece is still the only country in the world that i know off that operates both Patriot and S-300. Our air-defense may indeed be a bit more vulnerable now with SOM but we have a good and a very dense air-defense, it would be suicidal not to and it really doesn't make any sense from a military/defense perspective to underestimate it the way you do just because of a cruise missile, keep it real yo, you launch cruise missiles on Greece we obviously do the same thing and on far more strategic and possibly more dense populated targets than you'll do, targets deep inside Turkish soil and you really don't have capable air-defense to save your lives, it's a M.A.D. scenario, so as i said at least try to keep it real, this can't go full-scale annihilation where cruise missiles will be used and Greece is still EU soil last time i checked, it's absurd to even suggest that you'll launch cruise missile on Greece.

Correct on the politicians lies and not wanting to develop Greek defense industries because they sold out. Wrong on obsolete military though, that's just wishful thinking on your part. Military expenses is one of the main reasons that we are bankrupt, we have almost the same number of advanced/newgen fighter aircrafts while Greece is almost 7 times smaller the overall gdp and country population than Turkey, doesn't sound to me as obsolete as you would like to believe or make it out to be. My point is that there is a balance of power that TPTB will try to maintain here, they'll start giving us stuff for free when we won't have any more money to buy because you obviously can't be trusted. Goes without saying that i see you as a paper tiger too, it's a good thing to have a giant conscript army but in the real world quality personnel, training and equipment matters the most and you can't measure these on globalfirepower, the Turkish military elite and establishment is really not what it was and morale is the last couple of years as low as it can go, 13 thousand senior-rank military officers have resigned only during the last 3 years, another thousand is on trial and 15% of the generals is behind bars, 100+ airforce pilots also resigned just last month, alarming soldiers suicide rates, i could go on but you get my point, you can thank your sultan for that.

I'm not trying to say that Greece can win on her own, this is not realistic, especially in the current financial situation that can be easily manipulated by foreign powers against us, but i find the massive underestimations in here a bit odd and ignorant tbh, we can certainly hold our line and cause some damage, our military was built for defense and defense only and the most important thing for me is that it's solely focused on Turkey because we don't face any other realistic regional rival or threat, while your military is focused on pretty much everyone and you doing your best in making everyone in the neighborhood to dislike you a bit more than they already do, your politicians have lied to you too and obviously have totally neglected your security far more than Greece has neglected her own, Greece is the least of your problems, you'll be on multi-front war in no time the way you guys going, keep it up.

Awww how cute a Greek doing what he does best, ie: lie to the masses and then believe his/her own lie :)

My friend let me tell you, you still have no FREMM and until the French give you (it always seems to be at no cost) the two ships the Greeks are hoping for it's "OXI you don't have FREMM in your inventory".

Now moving along about the SCALP please don't make everybody laugh since Greece is still in the phase of "negotiating" the purchase of some 90 Sea Shadow missiles, meaning you still don't have any of these.

Try and grasp that your entire AA network is vulnerable since unlike Greece the Turks not only have the SOM in active service but are able to manufacture as many of them as they want, the sad thing is Greeks seem to be in denial of what this means to their country in terms of a hot conflict & no the Patriot (the older version that Greece has) & the S-300PMU1 (Russian export version) is not going to protect you against it and the Turks are not saying this but worldwide military websites/forums/expert analysis are saying the same thing.

In the meantime please enlighten us on the following as well:

1. Did they find out and punish the idiot who was responsible for failing to remove the "Made In Turkey" writing on the F-16 component deliveries (This was in Greek media, so called scandal lol). Greece has apparently been receiving spare F-16 parts from Turkey lol

2. Did your engineers finally crack the Milgem stealth technology? It was reported in the Greek & Turkey media that the radar (you should actually purchase, not dream about a more advanced radar solution) that Greece uses in the identification of military assets reports the Milgem warship to be a fishing trawler hahahaha

3. When was Greece going to get those free 400 Abrams from the USA again, sorry a delivery date was never set in stone (it was revealed to be a fake, and the Greek MOD revealed it to be nothing but hyperbole), the same goes for Russian BMP-3.

4. What happened to the Eurofighter consortium, why did they leave?? Did you decide on a replacement for the F-16 yet?? Or is what the Eurofighter consortium concluded to be true? (GASP Greece has no ability to purchase a new modern solution).

Please answer the above or better yet understand that while Greece needs to "purchase" solutions for defense Turkey can manufacture, eg: 2 FREMM (which you still have 0 of) is not going last long if in a hot conflict your facing a country who has similar tech and can manufacture as many as they want.

Yes Greece is becoming an obsolete military since a) Your currently stuck with your aging platforms while everybody else has moved beyond the "planning" stage and started purchasing new platforms, b) Your hopes does not equal to what is the reality meaning no abrams, no scalp, no fremm, no replacement for F-16s etc... c) Your defense industries neglected by the government that they have yet to manufacture anything that is at NATO standards (sorry ELBO is your most advanced weapons manufacturer but even they have been unable to export their products to NATO countries). d) while Greece worries about how to defend itself Turkey is slowly moving in on Greece as an economic power (go read the news as greece.greekreporter.com to understand this) and it's moronic in the extreme to wage war against your economic backer.

This is the reality & now the reality with Turkey is that yes they lack a modern long range AA solution (they also have older Patriots like Greece) and it's moronic that Turkey has not finalized a deal for a modern up to date AA solution also relating to the imprisonment of Turkish military officers, you do realize that we are talking about numbers here right? 100 or so arrests might seem enormous to Greece but for Turkey it's a drop in the bucket and constant training due to Turkey being a NATO member/problem in the East means that Greece cannot be ignorant and believe Turkey has inferior officers/generals to Greece.

Your both conscript countries, meaning in general both your troops suck anyway but when it comes to production, quality of arms and current "real" plans of acquiring new shiny toys Greece was left behind some time ago.

But then again keep believing what you want to believe even if the world tells you something entirely different.

Firstly don't you dare to call me a liar while you're spewing an endless amount lies. Lie number 1, Turkey off course hasn't bought Patriot system yet be it old or new and is begging the allies to deploy their own every other year. Lie number 2 Greece ordered Scalp in August 2000, deliveries made in 2007 and 2009, we're in negotiations to buy more, so stop the BS for the love of god.

SOM+scalp cruise missiles launches won't happen between NATO and an EU country, i don't need to grasp shit, you are the one that needs to get in touch with reality asap please, doesn't matter how many you'll produce, the best deterrent and defense against cruise missiles is the 'don't cruise me so i won't cruise you', Greece vs Turkey if it happens in the first place will only be allowed to go for 2 days max because of NATO participation of both countries, all the rest you say here are reaching fantasy levels, so chickenhawk, wipe the foam off your mouth, stop fapping near your keyboard and keep it real yo.

Fremm, abrahams (not fake btw, EU blocked them, stop the lies please) or whatever, as i said before, we're cool with armaments and don't think we really need more, most of you tards need to stop presenting Greek military like it's Lichtenstein army or something, these comments reach shilling and psyop levels imo, get your shit straight we have the biggest number of fighter aircrafts in EU together with France, how the fuck is this obsolete i really dunno but it's a further proof that your glasses are tinted, most of weapons were bought during the last decade, we don't need to upgrade yet, thanks, when the time comes will do as always have done be it eurofighter, f-35 or what the fucking ever. Despite the austerity cuts Greece is still one of the worlds biggest conventional arms purchaser, yes we don't spend 4-5% of gdp on weapons anymore, we spend 2.5%, it's still the second biggest armaments gdp expenditure in the EU, as i said we're ok on arms dept and most certainly not years behind, this claim is uneducated BS, it's not like we gonna go on a world war campaign or something now is it? It's not like we waging jihad on daily basis in Syria, Iraq and Kurdistan or something now are we? And more is to come from you for sure, we're watching with popcorn and a beer2 in hand here, keep the shit up, should be fun.

Lie number lost-the-count, 'Turkey is Greece's financial backer'. Our investments in Turkey are 6 billion and yours in Greece although are now increasing a bit aren't even a billion yet, some days ago your beloved sultan stated that Greece is the 5th investor in Turkey, we have 480 companies there, come back to claim that Turkey is a financial backer here when you reach half of this amount first, until then, sounds like more BS from you once again. Not that i would have a problem with you investing here, it's just business, but the financial backer claim of yours is completely retarded and way way off. I don't need to read greek.reporter to know this, thanks for the offer tard, i live here and i get my news straight from the sources greekreporter gets them and from other ones that are more specialized on certain matters. You can keep reading though if it helps you to complete the building of your fantasy-land inside your deluded head.

You use the word 'reality' a lot, but it's shocking how detached you really are from it. To end this here coz i really don't intend to keep dickwaving and waste my breath with a lying ignorant here (don't have a problem with you being ignorant but the lying part is disgusting) no one is denying that Turkey is growing and is indeed a regional force, that's one thing, but to present Greek army like it's fucking Luxemburg or something is just professional shilling that defies the obvious indisputable facts. I see that Erdogan's magalomania is contagious to the average ignorant Turk, pot kettle and all that, what i found odd is that he has a bigger appeal to the Turks living outside Turkey, seems that the various rumors have a ring of truth in them. The fact that you have believed that you can really be a regional leader shows how easy you guys shallow the BS your sultan and Davutoglu spew. How can you lead a region when 9 out of 10 neighbors conspire against you in the end? Are you gonna crash'em all or what? How the fuck are you gonna do that? Are you gonna crash the Kurds too (who btw are gonna be a majority in a generations time and sultan is desperately urging the Turks to have at least 3 children)? Is this the reality you talk about so often? You guys really believe that shite don't you? Doesn't sound to me anything more than a wet dream tbh, a little critical thinking to where your politicians really lead you would be wise, but i completely understand if you personally lack these certain skills. It also really amazes me that many of you believe that you'll manage to grab more European land and can't see the trap that is being set up here, Ottoman days are really over guys, secession movements, 'democratization' and civilization process that you so passionately support in other countries will eventually come back to you whether you like it or not when you're done being used as the USA's battering ram and useful idiot in the region.

They won't have peace in the ME for a long time that's for sure, it's only gonna get more ugly there, but as i've already said i doubt a war will happen between us, maybe a conflict of 2 days and that's it, regardless if the eurozone or EU remains in it's current form in the near future, EU influence is actually expanding right now in Africa, ME, Balkans and Med Sea in general, it's highly possible that we'll have some kind of north-south separate unions imo, they also want Turkey in but only the west part for now, so i doubt a big war between us will happen, in the long run 'democratization' process will take place in Anatolia.

Morning, is this confirmed? Cyprus officials said yesterday that nothing like this happened. Bad if true.

To be honest, they can't do such a move. Egypt already has societal and financial problems, the last thing they want to add are diplomatic tensions and possible international isolation.

Greece however has a problem 'cos the potential EEZ coincides with both Cypriot and Egyptian EEZs, and Egypt does not accept the Megisti-Stroggyli-Rho EEZ, clearly because of Turkish intervention.

Yeah, sounds a decade late, oil companies are already in Cyprus, foreign influence to scrap deals is same in Libya and Albania.

In an all out war involving only Greece and Turkey, who wins? Can either overpower the other?

Could the Turks take the islands?

Could the Greeks retake any territory they lost in 1920?

Re: So It Begins: Turkey Warns Greece Against Oil Exploration In The Aegean, Turkish experts accuse Greece of illegally snatching 16 islands
There won't be a full-scale war, 'cos obviously this lead to collapse of NATO and direct Russian intervention.

It's almost impossible for the Turks to take big islands 'cos this means huge mobility of air-mobile/airborne units. Same with Thrace in the mainland borders of Greece and Turkey.

In smaller, uninhabited or low inhabited islands they have many more chances. Some years ago Greek officials were examining a "Falklands-style" Turkish invasion of certain islands, crucial for the Greek EEZ, which, according to the Turks, have "disputed status".

Greece is screwed if they go to war with Turkey.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31508826

Could very well be. FYI Greece is not governed by Greeks the last 3 years, this is international criminal banking cartel, EU and IMF war-mongering that want to push the 2 countries in to a conflict after they sold to both of the countries billions and billions worth of weapons. Parallels with the 1967 CIA imposed military coup that led to Cyprus invasion are obvious for me.
