You don't just see someone become a heroin addict right out of the gate, they usually worked there way to that point, and weed was what provided their entry into drugs. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22151483 Now that doesn't mean if you smoke weed you're going to get into other drugs, or be enticed by other drugs, but the fact still remains it is an entry level drug that opens the door to exploring other ways to get high. ummmm no. find me one person that didnt try a sip of their parents beer or wine or a puff of cigarette before trying anything else. my first try was a beer when my dad left the room, thought i was slick but little did i now he was using it as his ashtray, mouth full of ashes wow that was nasty. |

Don’t use any pharmaceutical medications or any other man made chemical drugs including alcohol. It depends on the individual person and their influences, teachings, knowledge and choice that lead to the use of anything that's good or bad. Those that use harsher drugs are weak minded caused by our environment and a lack of love and proper guidance growing up. Otherwise no harm from smoking this natural healing herb. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27317240 United States 01/09/2013 01:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The misconception that it leads to harder drugs comes from the fact that people who use heroin, coke etc. had smoked weed earlier in their lives. It's about as logical as saying milk is a gateway drink to alcohol since all alcoholics drank milk when they were younger. If anything, (tobacco) cigarettes are the proverbial "gateway drug". The wonderful thing about Gaia's herb is that it creates a modest perspective and eventually becomes self-ending. A person can see at some point "Hey... I smoke too much weed. I should cut back (or quit)", whereas other addictions can remain habitual until they kill the user. |

How much truth do you want revealed to you? It can be quite scary, but you need a strong mind to make it through. Take me for example.... I started smoking weed when I was 11. Daily use started at 14 or 15. I only went through 1 semester of high school, then dropped out. It's now a random Tuesday night, and I'm on MDMA + MDA. It's all about self control. But eventually, you will need drugs to feel good if you start doing them. My advice: stay away from drugs. |

I'm not sure if you meant you did go sober or you're considering it, but either way, it's worth noting that both sobriety and being high are appreciated much more when they are given some contrast through balance and discipline. I smoked weed every day from high school until around when I was 28. Now, I'll smoke about 4 or 5 times a year and not only are the highs more incredible than ever before but they allow me a chance to reorganize my priorities each time. When I get high, I love it and it becomes worth doing but at the same time, it helps me acknowledge that I don't need to be high as often as I used to be. It's like flushing my mental toilet. |

My first step is figuring out stuff to do instead of being high. Like doing sober things with sober people, income, etc. Basically a lifestyle change is necessary, and it's not easy. It certainly won't be easy but I guess what I was getting at is that once you get started and your highs become higher, that mentality will keep you on the path that you want to be on. One day, smoking weed after being out for about a week, I got high as fuck. I started a conversation with myself where I weighed what I like against what I hate about (tobacco) cigarettes. What weed does is that it "balances" your autonomic system causing you to become incredibly indecisive, yet when you learn to focus that left\right brain argument, you find that you're incredibly confident when you reach a conclusion and that when you come back down, you still remember why you reached those conclusions. All that is to say that the next day, I gave up cigarettes and started walking\running every morning. It became a moment of realizing that addiction is mental and that my mind is stronger than my body. As I got more into cardio workouts, I started to really push my limits - no pop or alcohol, no red meat, no fried foods, no cheese etc. Then, I started stretching out how long I could go without smoking weed. After a few months, I would only smoke about every 2-3 weeks and would make a day of it where I would turn off my phone and just focus on what I want - I'd listen to music I hadn't heard in awhile, watched TV shows and documentaries that I had saved for a weed day etc. I've found that using weed to enhance things you're passionate about is what increases the appreciation for the herb. To bring this rant full circle back to the original point, those highs are what made me motivated to continue being sober for extended periods of time. What might help is to not see it like you're giving up on weed forever, but rather, taking breaks and you're "allowed" to come back to it when you feel like you've earned it. I don't know if you're a Carlin fan, but he's rather insightful and puts the whole discipline for weed into context really well... |

Because weed is anti-inflammatory and a (very mild) muscle relaxant, when you smoke it, your body loosens up. The reciprocal of that is that when you don't smoke it, you go back to your normal condition which, in comparison, creates muscle soreness and headaches for the first two or or three days. It's not the worst thing ever but going back to sober can be physically challenging which in turn does encourage, at least for me, a "little weed to start the day". |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30663645 It's habitual, not addicting. The difference is that habits can be formed towards anything enjoyable; addiction requires the brain to become locked into a necessity for a chemical. Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine etc are all addictive chemicals. THC is not. As far as having a negative effect on memory, I think that's debatable and may be subjective to the user, not the drug. |

You want circulation stick with natural things like pepper, ginger and essential oils. The reason for the headaches and all is imbalance in other areas of mind and body. Essentially there is nothing wrong with a little bud. Because we don't cultivate it ourselves and have firsthand participation in the growth process (some people in certain states do but for the most part we don't)we can be rather limited in our options of ingestion. Smoking isn't for everybody, some might benefit more from the oil form. Some do better eating it. It's not a simple science. Weed does cause withdrawl symptoms for some.. I've smoked for over 20 years with occasional breaks and do get slight physical withdrawal symptoms... These are well documented and generally last 10-12 days at the most, but they are mild and certainly very mild when compared to things like tobacco. |
