Re: Best Ancestry DNA Test
I just read a bit more carefully, and I see that the OP is primarily interested in identifying percentages of geographical origin for his/her genetic ancestry.

sorry, under the one drop rule, u r a negro!
0.1% sub-Saharan African

Pretty unlikely.

I'm pretty curious about the SE-Asian components and possible Amerindian connections but I haven't found even the slightest hint of any African. I included that one to demonstrate the limitations of 23andMe's ancestry painting. What they are labeling as African is probably not so.

As long as you cannot order (online account) & pay (fe PaySave) anonymously this 99USD offer is just a nice attempt of data mining which gets reflected by the low samples of 180.000 in 5 years since launch.

They really could make millions over millions (I know tons of people who are interested, but not that way) if they would change this barrier which puts everybody off (including myself) participating in this fascinating stuff.

And giving wrong data does not work: I don´t know if it was 23andme or another provider, but a really upset poster in an ancestral board reported that when he received the kit (here in Europe) he had to confirm himself via passport (and according to the general terms of his provider the signing recipient would be responsible)! Not willing to send off he was angry about the lost money (and the provider about stalking him to send back the spitted kit)

Data mining at it´s best: anybody rich is in need of a perfect suiting transplant liver or any further organ? I would know where to hack hidden and look for... (ONLY online usable SWAMI with online log-in ONLY sent to your home address and paying via credit card is similar weird stuff, declared as individual diet program with highly personal data - including actual personal health status quo)

If I would be rich and kind of a certain character I would also set up or invest in such a "project" (my own direct "life assurance"). As far as I once read Steve Jobs paid over 1 billion for an own lab just to examine his special variant of pancreas cancer, so all these verified data mining systems are like really cheap spare part depots for the ones who are in hurry

But you always find sheep buying in systems like this, victims of modern evolution

That's interesting.. I wouldn't want to ever give my DNA to a government agency. :)

Pick a company that will give you your raw DNA results.. You can then run those results through different algorithms.

I look up at the sky, and wonder where I am on earth. Then I wonder where I am in the solar system. Then I wonder where I am in the galaxy. Then I wonder where I am in the universe.

Exactly!!!! Hence, why I don't want to do it even though I am curious to find out more about my family. My father made a wicked family tree dating back to 1700s Prussia, but just for his side.

Both my mom and dad were from Germany and before them, Prussia (I was the first American in the tree), so do I really need to know whether my family came from the direction of Russia, Scandinavia, or France? I mean, what else could an ancestory test tell me?

Re: Best Ancestry DNA Test
With the introduction of 23andMe's V4 chip, the data files may not be compatible with sites like GEDMATCH and as such It puts into question if 23andMe stays on the recommended list.
