we also had a monster on september 2011:

Ive got 5 bucks that says it fizzles out, just like all the spots that come around to earth facing.

I would really like to know why? Ive read we need small flares to keep everything working correctly, we have not had any significant flares for how long now?
 Quoting: jonesin

how many months does the sun just fizzle out? too much, nothing will happen as usual. just high hopes
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31676698

This is not so. The answer lies in the orientation of the Sun , Earth, galactic plane and galactic center, and the direction the Earth and Sun is moving through the increasing mass of plasma as approach the precise galactic plane.. I am NOT yet ready to provide specifics and explanations, but if I were you I would scrap that idea.

I have people (so called scientists and astrophysicists) outright stealing and plagiarizer my information and publishing it as their own which doesn't really concern me as long as the information goes mainstream, but I have told "them" I will refuse to post specifics until they leave my thread open for three days, and I will stop posting usable information the instant it is closed again.

by my reckoning, that ting is about 80-90% the size of the spot that caused Carrington. a very rough estimation. anyone agree?

look at all the sun spots in between the 2 red lines....watch them over time...
this link will so today and the last 7 days.
only the sun spot in between the line could be earth effective.
i have seen spots show big you can see them without a scope. they did not flare or pop off any CME's

here is a good link to see which spots are actively flaring.
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]
here is the images in x rays...
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

and this is a good animation of what is happen right now.
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

here is a chart of the x ray flux (this show any earth directed flares)
[link to www.solarmonitor.org]

this shows the magnetic qualities of the sun spots.
[link to www.solarham.net]
here is the site where this came from
[link to www.solarham.net]

still nothing seems to have changed from the sun spots going quiet as they rotate around becoming earth facing.

it would be nice if this does change.

Your an idiot, trust me I know because I am one also, but I do know CME's flares, whatever, are very important, and the lack of activity from the sun is not good in the long term.

It was active on the 7th producing an m1.7

So its likely to either be in 1 of two fazes...

1. Growing and becoming more problematic...
2. breaking down...

Being that the farside activity was very low last week I assume option 1 is more plausible...

Ok, first off thank you (I rated this as a 5 star thread)

WOW.

I have personally watched this solar max every day now everyday for roughly the last 1.5 to 2 years...

TO ANYONE NEW TO THE RESEARCHING OF SUN SPOTS / SOLAR ACIVITY...

THIS IS THE BIGGEST SUNSPOT I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN ON THE SOLAR DISK IN THE LAST 500 DAYS. PERIOD...

I am astonished that space weather and solarham aren't warning of this behemoth region...!

Wow...

Great find op!

One side of me is hoping for an earth directed cme to analyse the effects that the sun produces on earth. (does it really cause eq activity, will it put us back to the stoneage ect).

But the other side of me is saying... THIS specific sunspot is certainly not the one I wanted to collect data from...

I TRULY FEAR 'ANY' X-CLASS CME'S that may stem from this sunspot...

YES I SAID FEAR!!!

That all depends on the magnetosphere's integrity...

Sunspots this cycle seem to be more geo effective in my opinion, breaching our atmosphere quite chaotically this cycle.

Again on the 5th there was already activity in this region. Its a two sided coin. I assume we wait to see what happens...
