SO, its not an AUS issue only. [] "in the USA as well beating all the past records." BULLSHIT! 2012 Didn’t Crack The Top Ten For Record Maximums NOAA has inflated the 2012 record maximum number by adding new stations which didn’t exist during the hot years of the 1930s. That is a completely illegitimate approach, suitable only for government workers. An apples to apples comparison uses only the same stations. When that is done, 2012 doesn’t even crack the ten hottest years. [link to stevengoddard.wordpress.com] |

It was crazy hot outside, I've never felt that type of heat before. Luckily I have very good ducted AC inside and only went outside to 'feel' the temperature so I would know what it felt like to be in 47C heat.... Crazy stuff. It has become so hot they've (Bureau of Meteorology) had to introduce two new colors to the spectrum - going past 50C. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 31749514 Australia 01/10/2013 05:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Meh. Been cool today but tomorrow we're looking at approx 35 deg. When I was a little kid growing up in the Riverina (Wagga Wagga - close to where the fires are - and Jerilderie) we'd often hit 45 degrees in summer. This current heatwave is nothing new, it actually not all that hot - cityfolk get worried about any weather they haven't experienced before. Lightning Ridge, now that gets hot out there - every year. As for bushfires, they are scary and can be horrific, but if the bushfire people go and put out every fire they don't light themselves, then how is a landscape which has adapted itself to fire over millions of years going to react? It's going to smile and nod whilst building up dead undergrowth and leaves and fallen branches and dry grass for a few years then it's going to explode at the first sign of a dry lightning storm. All their little "fire safety" procedures and policies mean jack shit when you're fighting AGAINST a primal landscape, not working with it. Why did all those people die in Victoria a few years back? It was because the fuel load was allowed to reach critical. All it took one one warm day of hot winds... The whole place needs a few good fires - but preferably in Spring or Autumn. |
