I like to drink Kool-Aid. Not very long ago you could get 10 packages for $1.00. Now they are three for $0.99. Talk about inflation,,, geez!!!

I used to love Breyer's ice cream,,, especially their butter pecan. Yup, smaller packages now at a higher price. More importantly, though, have you tasted it lately? Tastes like crap! A few months ago I wanted to get some butter pecan but the store didn't have any so I decided to try one of their new varieties. I don't remember the name of it but the stuff was actually inedible,,, so much so that I couldn't even finish the first bowlful that I tried and ended up throwing the rest of it away.

First time I noticed it was happening was when I realized cereal boxes were getting "thinner" at the sides. Still looked the same from the front, on the display shelves. Tricky, tricky. naughty

Some people just don't understand this Kirk, I too love to cook and am pretty good at it. I also live alone though and it doesn't always work to cook something elaborate. I also suck at planning out what food to cook for a week or two and it's just me so usually cooking one thing is good for 2-3 days. So I tried to keep lots of fresh ingredients in my kitchen but end up throwing away spoiled food a lot.

Started making the switch to things that I can make and then use simply in a bunch of different ways through the week.

At the end of the day though, sometimes you need the convenience of the crap food. I understand you completely buddy.

Yea I have thought about that today actually. My neighbor across the hall is this real nice old lady and today she was leaving her house as I was coming back from changing my laundry. She asked me if I wanted some soup she had made last night and proceeded to show me how she does what you had mentioned.

She had a freezer full of them little tupperware containers. She kept saying too, "no chemicals, just good food". I knew there was a reason I liked her so much, the soup was awesome too.
Fuck Yea!

Same thing happened with a non-food item, Pert shampoo. They thought making the bottle wavy would take attention away from the fact that they'd changed the ounceage.

More interesting, though, is the logo. Here's one guy's take on a few logos, including Pert's:

I have a Dollar General less than a mile away so I go in there to get my laundry and dishwasher soaps. Bought a big bottle of Clorox bleach (121 oz) and it was $4.00. Even the smaller bottles were $2.50.

For bleach
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23290196

Not to disagree with you, but clorox has changed the formulation for some versions. They have increased the concentration of the active ingredient. But I'm sure it is not proportional the increase you observed,

Food Inflation Kept Hidden in Tinier Bags

As an expected increase in the cost of raw materials looms for late summer, consumers are beginning to encounter shrinking food packages.

With unemployment still high, companies in recent months have tried to camouflage price increases by selling their products in tiny and tinier packages. So far, the changes are most visible at the grocery store, where shoppers are paying the same amount, but getting less.

...

In every economic downturn in the last few decades, companies have reduced the size of some products, disguising price increases and avoiding comparisons on same-size packages, before and after an increase. Each time, the marketing campaigns are coy; this time, the smaller versions are “greener” (packages good for the environment) or more “portable” (little carry bags for the takeout lifestyle) or “healthier” (fewer calories).

This is really good comparison with what products are advertising with what you really get. Not American brands though, but pretty indicative of what we get too.
