Bought a big bottle of Clorox bleach (121 oz) and it was $4.00. Even the smaller bottles were $2.50. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23290196 For bleach Dollar Stores are well established now and their prices are inching upwards. I buy their 1 lb box of saltines which, last summer was $1. Went to $1.15 last fall and yesterday, a box was $1.40. That's a 40% price increase in less than a year. Didn't buy the box of crackers, but probably will pay the $1.40 the next time I shop because I'm out of crackers. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23290196 For bleach Not to disagree with you, but clorox has changed the formulation for some versions. They have increased the concentration of the active ingredient. But I'm sure it is not proportional the increase you observed, Yes you are correct. I did notice it mentioned that on the jug but I thought bleach was bleach .. didn't know it could be concentrated LOL The old bleach was fine and I liked the price better. |

Kirk (OP) User ID: 25384388 United States 01/08/2013 10:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | just got back from grocery store. Quoting: Kirk price still 3.75 but 20 oz instead of 24. Old can had 20% more. brick of Tillamook cheese used to be 5 to 6 dollars now $10 getting scary. Stew in a can? Mkay. You for real? Think Im about to meet ralph & huey again I live alone and sometimes schedule doesn't allow me to cook. So pop a tinny and heat. 20 minute lunch. I have been known to make an excellent stew. But it takes time and attention. Some people just don't understand this Kirk, I too love to cook and am pretty good at it. I also live alone though and it doesn't always work to cook something elaborate. I also suck at planning out what food to cook for a week or two and it's just me so usually cooking one thing is good for 2-3 days. So I tried to keep lots of fresh ingredients in my kitchen but end up throwing away spoiled food a lot. Started making the switch to things that I can make and then use simply in a bunch of different ways through the week. At the end of the day though, sometimes you need the convenience of the crap food. I understand you completely buddy. yes. The only real food that is quick is eggs. Anonymous Coward User ID: 31714305 United States 01/08/2013 10:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The wonder bread company closing hurt me. They had off-retail outlets for "day old bread" I could afford the higher end (whole grains, less preservatives) product lines when they were culled from supermarkets. Rumor has it, the bread now all goes to food pantries or is reclaimed/purposed or thrown away, since nobody is going to stand up a new secondary distribution market. Just one more situation where you can't be dignified and thrifty. You have to go on the dole, or go without. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 15256858 United States 01/08/2013 10:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I noticed that about the Dinty Moore Stew as I have many cans pre- the shrunk size can. You know what...Big Lots used to be the place to find good stuff at a reduced price but let me tell you that this past couple of weeks I found that "reduced size can" of Dinty Moore stew there on their shelves for the very same price as the grocery store.....but being touted as "on sale". Not only are the cans shrinking but the discount places are running their prices as "on sale" when they are not at all. Yes,,,,,the incredible shrink sizes and the incredibily rising cost. Get it while you can not matter the cost right now because this is only going to get worse as time marches on. Get large quantities as it will be good for at least three years. Get it now cause in the very near future it isn't even going to be availbable AT ALL!!! And, if you haven't figured that out yet then you are just too lame to get it and won't ever get it. |

Used to be alot bigger. The box is the same size but the pizza has gotten much smaller over the years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30983109 Those were shit. I remember them. Blech. We used to call them "gas station" pizzas, they cost about $1, and they were only edible if you had a bad case of the "munchies". Wild Weasels? You've got to be shitting me! |

I'll never go back. BTW, someone specfically mentioned Breyer's ice cream. Once upon a time the natural vanilla was pretty good. Too sweet for my taste, but wholesome ingredients. Obviously some a-hole bean counter gained a position of influence. When the carton size went down, the price went up, and the gum made an appearance as an ingredient is when I started making my own. Should have done so before that. I'll never go back. My ice cream kicks hell out of what Breyer's Used to be.... not so much fucking sugar. |

Makes me sick. But go into those businesses where those same consumers work, and ask for a deal, and you get a rude cold shoulder. Mhmmmm....... Americans expect automatic low prices, until it's THEIR business or employer expected to give a discount. THen it's cheap cheap cheap, 5 dollars off 500. |
