You get an idea of just how big that sunspot was on the sun...

1654 and what will likely be named 1655, are just about that same size.

For those of you that aren't aware of the Carrington event, basically if we were hit with a CME of that magnitude, it would wipe out the power grid and can even have effects on human life such as increased risk of stroke or heart attacks.
