Mopar, firstly you are very one-eyed on this topic,

Secondly vitamin D is very expensive so although ideal to take, it is perhaps unrealistic for everyone to take 10,000 ius a day. And most working people or city dwellers simply don't have the opportunity to sun bake an hour a day.

Thirdly penty of people have never had a flu shot but still get the flu and alot of them require antibiotics to help them clear secondary infections.

I have had the flu twice and had never had a flu shot prior to those events.

How do you explain the spread and casualty rate of the Spanish flu. No, please don't write me off as a shill, please answer that question first. A vaccine wasn't available yet millions of people died from that killer.

Mopar please, you must know that you have been at the forefront of the anti vaccine movement here on GLP for years and years and years. You have and continue to influence people not to take vaccines for anything.

In some cases we are talking about life/death or permanent disability as a result of getting the disease.

You may not have travelled much, you may not live in a big city, you may not even be American or anybody who lives the developed world......we simply don't know that much about you except you always promote no vaccines. We have to take a leap of faith that you are truly impartial in your opinion.

Everything I say is equally open to conjecture, but when you look at the failure of antibiotics which is so important in surviving an A- type flu I understand why taking the vaccine is being encouraged.

Are vaccines safe? I'm not a scientist so I don't know for sure about their long term effects on health, but I do know the flu has a pretty dramatic effect on your short term health, especially if you get a typeA.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24909641

First, Vit. D3 is NOT that expensive. You can get about 100 tablets from Wal-Mart for $8. Fairly cheap at Walgreens & GNC also. You want to get the really good stuff, goto homefirst.com. You can get them with probiotics in them.

Second, I have lived in Iowa all of my life. I mainly travel to Duluth, MN in November of each year. This summer I took 3 teens on a 17 day, 3,100 mile road trip that covered states like Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, Tennesssee, Missouri & then back to Iowa. Visited a former GLp'er & a couple of other online friends.

Third, yes I have been at the forefront of the anti-vaccine movement on here. Any regrets? No. I spend hours a week helping people with opting out of vaccines. Getting beyond their employers "get the flu shot or else" agenda. And helping parents get their kids into school with the exemption forms. 20 years of reading books, reading papers written by doctors who are against vaccines, attending seminars & webinars by doctors who are part of the anti-vaccine movement & also seeing trends of flu shot receipients & people still dying from the flu anyway.

Fourth, the Spanish flu didn't have a vaccine? Umm, the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic was caused by vaccines. Everyone who got a vaccine died from the flu as a result.

Will I take the flu shot? Absolutely not. There are toxic levels of mercury in it - 25 mcg to be exact. According to EPA standards you would have to weigh 550 lbs. to get that much mercury in one shot.

Prior to taking 10,000 IU daily of Vit. D3, I would get sick every 4-6 weeks for 7-10 days. I've been taking D3 for almost 5 years & I haven't been sick since. Coincidence? I don't think so.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15917555

No more than 1,500 IU daily until summer he/she can get outside.

Yeah, but the cytokine storm is usually seen in strains that are pretty much novel, example being the H1N1, or the strain that caused the Spanish flu pandemic.

Indeed, it won't help a staph infection, so watch your symptoms:

[link to www.startribune.com]

On Dec. 30, another otherwise healthy teenager, Max Schwolert, 17, of Texas, died of flu complications at a St. Paul hospital. Schwolert, who had been visiting relatives in Wisconsin, apparently developed a staph infection along with the flu, and the combination accelerated rapidly, turning ever more deadly, family members said. He had not had a flu shot.

And if you think that yourself or your child may be developing complications such as staph, strep throat, pneumonia, etc. please make sure your physician pays attention.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8658014

I think the problem is that there isn't much that the doctors can do about those infections anymore. Unless a new antibiotic is developed its a few years at most.
 Quoting: zenobiaphobia

"First Antibiotic-Resistant Gonorrhea Cases Detected in North America"

The fears of major health organizations have come true: Gonorrhea that is immune to the last remaining effective oral antibiotic has been detected in at least nine North American patients, meaning the era of "incurable" gonorrhea could be close.

In a study released Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, a group of scientists led by Vanessa Allen of Public Health Ontario, found that 6.7 percent of patients with gonorrhea at a Toronto clinic still had the disease after a round of cephalosporins, the last effective oral antibiotic used to treat the disease. Of 133 patients who returned for a "test of cure" visit, nine remained gonorrhea-positive. This is the first time cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea has been found in humans in North America......

There's nothing wrong with the idea of vaccines. Gosh, we'd have a lot more deaths in history from smallpox if they hadn't figured out that cowpox was similar and apply the liquid from crusts from cowpox lesions also imparted immunity from smallpox.

It's the way it's evolved. Gosh, mom's get your measles vaccine so your babies aren't born deaf. There are important ones.

I just don't think that the flu vaccine is all it's cracked up to be, nor safe.

It's all back to corporations and greed and lack of medical ethics.

Keep watching Boston. Pay special attention to prisoners and soldiers. Those two groups and likely college students will show the first issues with lots of sickness and possibly mortality from their proximity to one another.

The govt. is going after supplements next. Overregulation will result in no vitamins. Even though the sun allows the body to produce that vitamin, most people don't get nearly enough sun exposure either from weather, or spending too little time outdoors. Sad times.

Instead of measles vaccine, girls used to make sure to get measles (and also mumps) when they were kids. They would have "mumps parties" when one of their friends got mumps, so they could all get it and be done with it.

Worked just fine.

From what I read, Vitamin D3 is basically a hormone and similar in structure to a steroid. Sorry I don't have a link but maybe someone here knows what I am talking about?

Aren't those things we are avoiding, steroids and added hormones?

I don't know about mumps parties. I've heard of them of course.

The vaccination in question is a MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella). I was talking about making sure mom's got immunized to protect their babies (often an immigrant issue), not children getting them. There was a lot of women who got measles and created a wave of deaf children born to them. That's rubella, aka German measles. It can cause heart deformities too as a birth defect.

If your around someone who got a flu shot this year...
Don't touch your face until you wash your hands.

Don't touch your face after you go out in public. most of the time going out in public means you touch the door handle of a gas station entrance, or a gas pump, or a bank screen, or a screen used to pay for your groceries.
