Wrong, no state will convict as long as the robber pointed the gun back at the victim! It is self-defense at that point. The victim can articulate that he was in fear of great bodily harm or death from the actions of the robber, which justifies his use of deadly force. It doesn't get much more cut and dried!

You must understand his perspective. You see, in the UK, subjects are not allowed to defend themselves. So he has no idea what to do when being bent over.

So if he walks backwards or away while pointing a gun to the other guy or to the baby, that's OK? No crime committed? No need for self-defence against that?

Those "Daddy-bear" instincts kick in and it's a miracle the robber wasn't shot dead. Had I been the guy - after my baby's life and my own had been threatened for a few lousy dollars - I am not sure that I wouldn't have fired several more times just to finish off the bastard!

There are natural instincts - which almost all men possess aware of it or not - that come into play when one's child is threatened and they're often far more violent and uncontrollable than when you're "merely" defending your own life.

The most meek, non-violent guy can and will turn into a raging wild man when his child is threatened or injured. In that state of righteous rage, he can lift up cars, beat the hell out of three or four men, and worse!! The rage and violence can be so bad that in some ways it's almost better if he does shoot you vs beating you to death and then stomping your head into the ground.

Anyone considered that the father jeopardised his 2 months olds safety by engaging in a gun fight after the crook was running away. He was lucky that he hit him, as could you imagine what could happen if the crook just blazed away in return. The 2 month old wouldn't get any older.
He valued his wallet, more than the life of his child.
He wanted to be a hero with a gun, thats why he carries one isn't it.
