Guns don't deserve the credit. If he didn't have a gun he could just as easily defended himself with a knife or a hammer or run him over in the car or something. If people are determined to protect themselves they will find a way. Guns don't protect people, people do.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27172464 I disagree. The robber turned around and pointed the gun at them, they weren't in a position to run him over, and I'm sure he didn't have a hammer on him. The victim shot first, protecting him and his child. This could have easily been a tragedy.
